Optimus V Fan Noise

My laptop has been on for about 4 hours now with the new BIOS update and I haven't heard the fan once. It had improved before the BIOS update too.

I'v just ordered my Optimus V, seems like its a bit hit & miss on whether this issue gets resolved or not... Do you think it would be worth me contacting them to send me the BIOS update along with the laptop, or to ask them to update the BIOS themselves? Is this the kind of issue they'll be looking at during the testing stage of development?

Just did the bios and had no effect on the fan. This is a problem..
Mine has not bedded in either and i've had mine roughly two weeks now
I'm starting to get really upset with my purchase now it's still going off so loud even when just on Facebook..
not to mention i just got it back from a repair scratched to hell..

Update: Trying to get a refund now as this laptop is completely upsetting me :(

Another +1 for fan noise remedy lonely heart.

I love my new Optimus V, I really truly do, but the intermittent hair dryer effect is certainly taxing on our relationship. Intermittent 100% activity even on things like Notepad, though the computer temperature is not increasing.

Would like to know the official PCS stance on this.....

Was going to use my laptop tomorrow doing some training for junior techies, but it's so loud i don't think ill be using it which defeats the purpose of me buying it

I've been reading many reviews about the Clevo W350ST, one of them at http://www.notebookcheck.net and I'm afraid that the fan noise problem is there.

"Sometimes, the fans turn off all the way while the system is idle, but there are also times when the laptop gets rather loud (~ 37 dB(A) from a distance of 6 inches) despite having nothing to do."

"That is not only annoying, but also completely incomprehensible - especially the fact that Clevo has not thought about introducing more levels of fan speeds. It feels as if they are either off or set to maximum speed. We do sincerely hope that Clevo will optimize the fan control system before the customer version is released."

You can read the rest of the review at http://www.notebookcheck.net, entering the Clevo W350ST model at reach criteria. I hope this help.

Surely if it's a well-known problem then they'll be making a fix for it... right? If not I'm considering cancelling my order (if possible!) and sticking to an Optimus IV, which would be a shame as everything else about the V looks amazing

Just received an update from PCS:

We are currently in talks with Clevo to get a newer fan table for the machine, as a few customers are having the fan issue, it looks like they've made it spin too fast at lower temperatures.

Correct as the above post by James86 says we are in talks with Clevo to get this problem resolved. When we do we will let you know and start making a lot of pen drives!

I will post on here when we have an update from CLEVO. We will then start the process of BIOS Flash Drives to be sent out to affected customers

Great news!

It's a great laptop, but the raised eyebrows from the significant other while the jet engine drowned out their dross on the telly were becoming a little too frequent. Thanks!

Why can't you just make it available for download?

Sounds like an incredible waste of pen drives and time.

For all new Optimus V models in the making, will PCS be updating the BIOS before shipping them out? Will this fan issue be looked at during the testing stage?

Depends when they get the bios fix if they get one they're currently in talks with Clevo so nothing has been confirmed yet anyway we're just hoping that something can be done
