Optimus V Fan Noise

I'll need to check my temps but you are right about the fan noise over the speakers.

I was watching a movie last night and maybe 7 or 8 times during it the fan kicked in which really drowned the internal speakers (I know the speakers are a bit weak).

I checked that none of the vents were restricted etc and it was clear. To be fair, it was a hot-ish day (for Scotland) yesterday

Do you think PcSpecialist would give me a refund for this? i mean i know laptops are supposed to kick in fans at high levels of noise but i can't even hear the game with headphones in..
You would really need to contact PCS about that.
Phone lines won't be open till Tuesday I believe.

I'm hoping Clevo could update the BIOS or something to add more fan speed options or have it slowly increase instead of just off or 100%.

I'm still having this problem, low temps, no games running, every now and then fan will spin up to maximum speed and stay there for a while.

The fan will come on at 100% every few minutes when i am just browsing the internet. CPU at 40-50 degrees, gpu using integrated graphics. System cooling policy set to passive. Surely no one can say this is acceptable or necessary?

I honestly love the laptop apart from this one major fan issue, if they do a bios feature or something i'll keep it because i enjoy it other than that but if
not then oh well. :)

It might be worth making sure you don't have programs using your cpu in the background.. might be something just ticking over forcing your cpu to warm up a little.

what kinda specs have you guys got?

I have the pre-assembled Optimus V currently on the Pcspecialist Optimus V page and i have only installed 2 games onto it and nothing else so far

I've only installed a couple of games so far aswell. I don't mind the fan kicking in, but why 100% everytime, and so often?

Came here to say I've had my optimus v for a few days now - have no fan problems. Using the passive setting and a minimum of 5% power it keeps it nice and quiet - I hardly ever spin up its still fairly quiet.

Plugged in, using "active" cooling setting, and 100% minimum cpu state I also have no heat/noise problems. Laptop will generally sit around 61/62 and 54/55 now I've got a laptop cooler and fan generally hasn't kicked in until 63/65 mark.

I would say - check to see which profile you have "active" enabled on and make sure that the on- cpu-GPU is seeing it's fair share of use and not the dedicated graphics card, and also check the min CPU state for plugged in and on battery.

Playing games - I imagine with the CPU at 100% and graphics activated - it will be very very hot - would definitely advise to invest in a laptop cooling pad if it took 6/7degrees off at around 55/65 then I imagine it will take even more off if the laptop is hovering around 70and the fan is spinning up.

If anything is happening radically different to that there's probably, unfortunately, some kind of fault with your machine.

Gave this a go unfortunately nothing changed :( still the fan sped straight to 100% at 50 Thanks for trying though! welcome to any more methods if anyone has anything

to be honest, i'd want my fans running fast if the temps were around 50c. but I dont work for PCS, that just my opinion.

In any case, I think you should give Pcs a bell on Tuesday.

50c really isn't that high for a laptop I'd say. 65/70 constantly and you'd be pushing it.

My dedicated gpu does 43 C while the cores do between 43-46 when I'm using it for web browsing or media. It uses the integrated during these times and the fan will just randomly come on at full. Even when I'm doing stuff like extraction or compression the temps still stay under 50. I know what heat can do to a laptop but is it really necessary for the fan to come on at full just to keep it at those temps. Slower fan speeds would be appreciated. It doesn't bother me that much since I mainly have headphones in.

i'ma get my optimus and see what the temps are, i'll edit them in.

Edit - on my optimus III with an I5 3320M @2.6 I currently have both cores between 55-59 with only HW monitor running. laptop sat on cooling pad on my desk, no fans going crazy.

But, I do have Noctua thermal Paste on the cpu.

After applying the settings mentioned above I'm still getting the fan coming on 100% when the laptop is doing nothing. I can't understand it.
