Well, I had the BIOS update done, was fine for a bit, something broke and now I'm back to square one.

The fan has been on full constantly since 3 PM today and for the first time it's now starting to annoy me. Hurry up Clevo!

We apologies that we do not have an ETA from CLEVO regarding the fix. They are currently in 'testing' with the issue and as soon as we know more.. So will you.

I'm having the same issue with my Vortex 4. It sounds like a small problem but it is incredible annoying and distracting for anyone in the room. I hope it can be fixed because it's enough of an issue to make me want to send the laptop back!

I would contact Pcspecialist The fan problem is a known issue with the Optimus V but not with the Vortex 4 so i would give them a call when you can

Last night I emailed PCS regarding a new laptop for music production. I was very impressed to find a response when I woke up (albeit in the afternoon). The suggested quote was for the Optimus V which after a lot of reading around seemed like a brilliant machine for me. Then I found this thread. I will be recording vocalists in the same room as the laptop and while recent recordings in the presence of my noisy Presario CQ60 have been reasonably clean, I had hoped that a new, more powerful laptop would also be quieter and thus improve the quality of my musical output. I appreciate noise comes with power but when the quote adds up to over £1200 I'm sure there are configurations that produce minimal noise. Would love to hear your suggestions.

Cheers,

Tim

The problem isn't the configuration at all, it's the actual fan that Clevo company released they made the fans just go crazy 90% of the time
the laptop itself is fine and configured greatly, the fan that Clevo added into it however is not, but they are making a fix for it because it's an actual Fault that it's going to 100% speed when it's not needed to, currently Clevo is making the final tests for the fix and it should be out any day now, so as soon as it comes out and things go smoothly buy away because once it's out the laptop will be perfect. :D

As far as I know it is not applicable to the 13.3" as it is a different motherboard (so shouldn't have the fault).

I contacted PC Specialists about it but was fortunate as the problem stopped on its own accord. Hope the bios update sorts it out for you!

Good to hear :) Been waiting about a month for a fix now, apparently it should be out any day now though.. But it doesn't seem likely since they keep saying this every week.

Has anyone heard anything or gotten any updates from Pcspecialist? cause it seems like they're not sure what's happening with Clevo currently so i'm lost

Everytime i ask i keep getting different responses from each member of staff

I think the most promising thing is that PCS have engaged with Clevo, MoosEh is also in the same boat so it is just a matter of waiting. I don't think every member of staff will be updated on every minor update from Clevo so I would just wait for updates from MoosEh. Clevo are likely to spend a couple of weeks at least just testing to make sure there are no bios errors or bugs and that it is stable. Last thing anyone wants is a rushed update that could potentially brick their laptop.

I haven't bought this yet but even after 12 pages of fan concerns I am still buying this laptop, it is truly incredible for the price and level of config available. To think other highstreet shops have laptops this expensive with entry level to mid range gpu or amd apu and dont offer a free 3 year warranty with the laptop is an absolute joke now.

Does anyone have a video on youtube or something showing the fan at full speed? I am just curious to find out how loud it is, my toshiba is so loud at the moment. Also is the sound friction related like a plastic on plastic or metal on plastic contact? Im thinking could you not apply a tiny amount of oil to a friction point to dampen the sound? Or is it distinctly the blades/air intake and propulsion thats causing this sound? I am just thinking as an engineer. Definitely feels like its one of those cases like with vintage car engines that had a break-in period before you could push them above a certain speed. Obviously these are just ideas I don't know if anything like this could void the warranty and if so I certainly am not suggesting to do it.

It's hard to explain the noise but it's mainly because it just comes on randomly more than anything, If you leave your computer and go away from it you could come back with the fan blaring out for no reason, and this will not stop sometimes until i restart the laptop :(
I agree i'm glad they've engaged Clevo but i was told it was going to be finished two weeks ago, and they've not had any updates since then not even saying they've had issues or anything
Come on Clevo :p

Hi Guys,

I am seriously thinking about buying the Optimus V but after I stumbled across this thread and (as you would expect) I have concerns about the performance of the 'jet engine' of a fan lol....I would not mind if it was 90-100% if i was playing games but not when the system is idle, so my question to you lovely people is if you knew about the 'jet engine' would you buy one? also whats the screen like?

Many thanks
