Optimus V Fan Noise

Nope, not touching the GPU, just spamming the CPU.

That is interesting isn't it. I wonder how the temperature sensors interact with the fan then. Although looking at power consumption of the 2, the i7 is 47W including the integrated chip if that is used, vs the nvidia GPU which is 75W. Although the GPU is closer to the fan and so has a smaller distance for the heat to travel, the CPU would still dissipate heat well. Also if you switch the the dedicated gpu, the integrated i believe would be inactive thus lowering the power requirement of the cpu too and also lowering heat in theory depending on auto-overclocking or turbo boost.

Could you share the temps next time you do this/see this happen? I would like to know how the temps of the haswell i7 compare more for interest than anything else

I bought my computer when it was released and I have the fan problem.

Has it been released any BIOS update yet? If so, how/where can I get it?

Thank you in advance!

I have the 17.3" Optimus V, I get the fan issue constantly when trying to watch films/cartoons at night. Gaming is not an issue, but as stated when I watch a program the fans will go from near 0% to 100% and stay like it basically until I turn the laptop off.

You'll need to email Pcspecialist because the issue isn't known for the 17.3" so you'll have to ask

I also have the 17.3" model... :/

If you read back to page 12 on here you'll see Mooseh says different sized laptops have different motherboards or something therefor shouldn't have the issue but as it does you'll need to email them and explain you have it and ask about it for your size laptop specifically

Hopefully the same fix we're getting can work for you too
Also how bad is yours? does it go from 0% to 100% randomly when idling?

Yes, just randomly when it decides to (no load at all) it will go from 0% to 100% and remain at 100% for 1 hour+ even when the laptop's temps are around 40-45deg. Also using a high-end laptop cooler stand.

As I have not had time to pop onto the forum I thought i would give you an update.

The Fan issue affects only the Optimus V 15.6" and 17.3" w370/w350ST/Q chassis.

The 13.3" is a different motherboard so is not affected.

CLEVO have not released a fix as of yet (to my knowledge) we are still chasing this.

Emailed support, got:

At the moment a BIOS flash for your chassis is not available, as soon as this is sent over to us by the manufacturer we will forward this onto you.

I thought there was a bios available. I have a 15" optimus V.

No there isn't a fix yet unfortunately, Been waiting 2 months for one and it seems Clevo are just taking ages to make it, however there is a firmware that apparently helps the fan from going crazy when idling, if you read back a few pages you can look into it

Well, that's what I want, but they said no.

I'm confused.

A guy posted how to do it on here with the download for it.
Read back over posts around page 15-16

it's odd they said no because when i asked they said this "I'll make one up for you and send it on Saturday, as I'm doing about 20-30 of them and get it out first class. "

I'm really not impressed with pcspecialist. First they knowingly sell a laptop with this issue, then they can't or won't send me an updated firmware.

Also, any idea why my posts are disappearing?

I posted a thread about the fact that my week old laptop refuses to charge past 34%, and if this was a know issue.

Post was most certainly there. Now is gone. V odd.

Guys,

I am starting to be very concerned about this issue, and thinking of cancelling my order for the Optimus V. Can pc specialist GUARANTEE that the problem is going to be fixed or am I going to be stuck with a laptop that does not allow me to watch movies and listening to music because of the fan's noise.
This is getting very irritating now and very confusing as I don-t have a clue about how noisy the laptop is and how annoying this issue is.
Any explanation is very welcome, please

I tried getting a refund and everything after i bought and they wouldn't let me i even offered to pay to go for a better laptop but no, so i would definately decide before you receive it, because once you have it, you're stuck with it no matter what, Clevo are supposed to be doing a fix but i've lost hope since every week they keep dragging their feet with it......
I've been emailing every 2 days and i always get the same response "We don't know or Clevo are working on it still"

But i do have some very good news for you, i mean for about half a month the fan was INCREDIBLY noisy, but then as another guy said also, it settled in and the sound went down abit, the only pure issue for me now is the fan staying on for ages after gaming, which i'm hoping can be fixed with the firmware or the Fan fix when Clevo eventually get to work so i wouldn't worry too much mate :)

Thanks mate for your reply. It feels strange when something eventually settle on its own in a laptop, it does not make any sense to me, but I believe I will have to live with it and give it a try.
Lets hope all is fine.
Thanks again
