yeah they tend to, exclusivity deals maybe, but im sure there would be a basic 5 day delivery (from dispatch) for free with most, other than that, you may find customers would be willing to pay the extra for a good courier at a specific day/time.

What"good courier"would that be though.

that of the users choosing.

But as I said, I've never seen companies offering choices of couriers, and as you said it may be exclusivity deals,
And even if this didn't apply then using multiple companies would probably make deliveries more expensive for everyone, as PCS probably get it cheaper given its dealt with in bulk.

Then we're all going to end up paying more for deliveries,
with very probably the same failure rates.

Just out of interest, what courier did PCS use before? I've heard that City Link are pretty awful, but don't really know much about the others. My experience was similar to the poster above, Yodel barefaced lied about trying to deliver to my flat. Perhaps offering people the choice of another more reliable delivery company, even if it's more expensive, is the way to go.

I agree. People who are prepared to pay more for special types of delivery would pay for the xhoice of courier.

Well it changed from 'awaiting booking in date' to 'in transit' but it's been like that for a full day and it was at my local depot...

There are several reasons why we only offer one courier:

1. One lorry calls each day to pick up parcels - easier to manage.

2. One company to go back to when a problem occurs.

3. Better economies of scale, therefore cheaper prices to the customer.

However, we are considering listing an alternative courier for customers to select. We can never win though - if we list City Link someone will complain. If we list DPD, someone else will complain, and so on...

Yeah I know what you mean. If you only used city link for example, you may very well have a list as long as this of compliant's but I think perception goes along way with this. Personal experience... I have never had an issue with city link, tracking and customers service works well for me, so if I saw city link I would more likely choose them, and that is my choice. If it goes missing/delayed or whatever I will still be making the same enquires but I made the initial choice from my experience. This has to count for something and if it can be provided for relatively little extra cost to the user then I think it would be another string to PCS's bow.

It would be nice if there was one golden courier service who never got anything wrong, sometimes us gamers have a problem remembering when we're in reality! (joke) xD

Although myself & countless other people have had no problems with Yodel, there are people who have issues & come onto the forum with complaints, which is understandable but also a shame because it paints PCSpecialist in a negative light.

Like in my previous post a couple of pages back - I think offering an option for an alternative courier would help alleviate that, whether it changes the amount of incidents is another story.

Like you just stated, it's not very practical but people seem to be wanting the option as Yodel have gotten quite a few complaints on here & it might scare or have even scared people away from ordering.

Quite possibly, but I cannot understand why someone would not order from one place just because of the courier. In reality, looking at the number of negative online reviews demonstrates that regardless of who delivers your computer there is a chance of it going missing/getting damaged, and I imagine that the success rate of most delivery couriers is a similar percentage.

We left City Link because of the problems, only to have problems with DHL and now Yodel.

A choice of courier looks like the best option I agree, so we'll look into this. Please can everyone click here: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forum...Choose-Your-Favourite-Courier-Feedback-Needed!

Anyone know what this means...

"Message:Other: Morning we have not recieved delivery POD yet. Apologies for the inconvenience caused. Thankyou"

I have just received that from Yodel @ 8:15am but just noticed on the tracking info it know says out for delivery @ 8:29am.

Yeah I've just got that POD = Proof of Delivery. Of course they don't have proof of delivery as they haven't delivered it yet [rollinglaugh]

Excuse me if i'm mistaken but weren't Yodel formerly DHL????

yes and No - Yodel were formally HDNL who bought DHL's Domestic UK business (DHL Express still exists as DHL). The DHL customers have been transferred onto the HDNL network with the old DHL depots slowly being closed down.

Before DHL UK was purchased by HDNL we always had a small percentage of parcels going missing, so like I've stated before they're all as bad as each other unfortunately.

So I thought I'd post my experience with Yodel with my order (not over yet)

I was expecting delivery today, just received the box labeled 2/2, (monitor) and not 1/2 (computer).

13h - I receive the monitor

15h - I phone them asking about the other box, they said they were totally sure I would get it today. So I waited for it.

17h - I refresh delivery status and they just added a new hilarious entry: No one to receive package, returned to depot, card left. (but I've been home all day, didn't even listen to music or anything just in case I wouldn't be able to hear them.)
By the way, no card was left whatsoever. (Another funny note, my courier notes printed in the box were: Someone will be home 24/7)

17h 10m - I phone them again. Explain the situation and tell them why the need to lie saying a card was left and no one was there. I would prefer them just saying they didn't have the time. Then ask for a redelivery the next day, but then they tell me they can't because I'm phoning them past 16h. I think this is a bit of a joke really. So they said they would "try" a new delivery on Friday. Costumer service were very nice, but that doesn't mean I'm quite disappointed about it. Fingers crossed for Friday...

By the way PCS were pretty fast with my order, (fast track) so very happy about that. Will post pics and spec when it's home.
