The New Xbox. XBOX ONE

I only play Halo on the 360 at the moment and i couldn't justify going current gen at the price it is at the moment for 1 game.

I've got no real desire to upgrade to the next gen at the moment, i'll wait till the buzz wears off then maybe.

As for the internet connection im not saying that it will solve everyone's problem but it will solve a lot i can imagine, if the xbone needs authentication then both iphones and android phones have wifi tether, if its just a quick authentication it will be a minimum data package every 24 hours.

Im not condoning what they have done just a work around thought i had for some users.

Yeah fair enough, it would be good if they did, can never hurt to support more platforms. Some game series continued for years on the PS2 (a few as late as 2011!) so I guess it just depends on the individual developer to choose to support older consoles.

I spose to speculate, with Halo, being produced by MS owned developers, if they intend to keep the 360 alive that makes a Halo port more likely.

Nice idea on the tethering front would probs work for a lot of people.

PS, tom nice sig.

Cheers!

The thing that will get to me most is the price of games.

They said that the cost of games is such because of piracy and preowned sales. So with that theory of the Xbox One, Preowned is gone(ish) and Piracy will be much more difficult with these cloud authentication etc, basically gaming becoming more like a PC model.

So if games start coming out with a price tag of £50 i will be amazed. Essentially they work the same as PC games now and there only about £30-40 day one.

Unless i'm missing something

If that is what they are planning, more expensive hardware than the PS4 but cheaper software then i think despite all the negatives with authentication the Xbox one might stand a good chance.

If games were the same price as the PS4 i think i would consider the PS4 or just stick with PC.

Am I the only one here that thinks that the PS4 isn't going to be as perfect as they're making out? And maybe that the Xbone won't be as bad as they're making it sound? I'm no Xbox fanboy but I have always preferred my Xbox over my PS just because of controller layouts, better online experience (IMO), etc. There's just always been something about PS that has put me off it i.e. Accounts being hacked, servers being laggy, very buggy games on release (think Skyrim).

Perhaps the PS4 will fix it but I genuinely think the Xbone will be better than it sounds. A lot of the game developers seem to be siding with Microsoft like EA which yea, it could be as Microsoft suit EA the most with their Pay for everything policies but I can't help but feel there's more behind it than that.

I don't really understand enough the ins and outs but isn't MS's reasoning something to do with the high-street chains having too much control over pricing because of resale etc. which they want to control?

That's all very well but draconian DRM is not the way forward. Plus I'd still trust the high-street chains over MS and EA. :D Maybe they're making money off the back of the game developers in the US but pretty sure over here most of them are going bust. And EA financially are pretty cosy to say the least. Which I think weakens MS's argument.

If next gen games do start at £50, will they put the price of PC games up do you think?

if they do, just dont buy them.... and wait for sales.

If you think about all that competition for PC game codes, I mean how many sites are there now that sell legit steam codes? loads n loads, all in competition with each other, in turn this pushes the prices down and involves loads of sales :)

I still think (as mentioned above) that MS will uturn, or at least dampen down the DRM stuff at some point. Its just too big of a cross to bear that will massively hit their initial sales and thus "lost" this gen's console war before its even really started :)

I know that as soon as a game is traded in then Microsoft/Game Developer receive no profit from any pre-owned sales which is why they started introducing online codes, etc. At the end of the day, if they create a game with a 6 hour campaign, why should you have to pay to borrow it? If it's a game with 500+ hours of multiplayer gameplay then fair enough, the multiplayer is worth paying for.

If the preowned market really does cease to exist though places like Blockbuster, Gamestation, etc will really start to struggle I think and I know in america that Bestbuy is huge for preowned games.

If I know this information then I really hope that Microsoft know it as well and that they'll use a little bit of common sense. I don't mind online codes, but paying again for everything is just daft. But like Tom said perhaps lots of Xbox code websites will crop up and games could end up dirt cheap like the PC.

I understand why manufacturers and production companies are so annoyed about it. People are making money for something they have done no work or effort for. In the T&C's of the games it says that its a breach of contract or the law to trade in or loan a game that you have bought so i do not understand why all the game and blockbuster stores have been allowed to get away with it.

Also the price of some of these preowned games are about as much as the new one.

A few times i have seen Call of Duty for the same price as RRP, its crazy.

I honestly don't understand what microsoft are doing with the Xbox One, I mean with the information we all have right now, it would just be silly to go for the Xbox One but I do also feel that Sony aren't being completely truthful with us yet on how the PS4 will turn out.. and if they are, microsoft have A LOT of changing to do, now with them blocking the activation of games outside of a certain IP range... WHY? why limit your audience so much? I don't really get it.

It seems that microsoft have gone back on many of their policies due to the feedback from gamers

No more always online requirement
The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
Region locks have been dropped

Seems like a complete U-turn, although I still prefer the PS4 due to it being more powerful, cheaper, no kinect and has better exclusives
