I managed to sell myself up right through the process, the 5900x is only an extra £50, the 3070Ti was only an extra £14 (at the time) it’s only £50 for 3 more fans and so it continues!

That's why when I configured the I went straight for the top virtually straight away, ok I'm getting it without GPU (transferring my existing 2070super), or OS (upgraded W7 on an old PC under the bed to W10), only thing I've got for it since ordering is an LL120 for an exhaust fan, thought about some RGB strips but resisted

I've applied "man math's" or "man logic" similar to @RichLan564. It's more comforting to spec it low so that initial "hit" is bearable. And you tell yourself, "okay, I've done alright here. Close to my original budget".
Then you start to "upgrade" a little here, a little there as those "small payments" don't hurt as much as the initial build payment. 🤷♂️🤦♂️😂
