Just ordered the most expensive laptop I never thought I'd need.

I think @Clintster is referring to this? :)

That's what I was looking for! How did you find that? Sorry to ask, having a mental capacity day here

EDIT: ah, found it, it's because I had my browser window limited across half the screen, and it's cropping the top bar of the configurator window putting it in mobile view, so I don't see the Overview, configurator and Detailed Specification tabs, as soon as I maximise the window it's there.

That was bugging me!!!

Thanks everyone, To be honest I want a laptop (DTR), I want AMD and I want the Nvidia GPU with the most amount of VRAM so I haven't much choice in the matter. :)

Just wondering while waiting for my laptop.
Will I be able to easily change from using it's power when I'm doing intensive stuff to low power when just using it for web surfing, watching Youtube etc?
Is it even worth putting it on a low setting when not needing the power?

It's windows, so will automatically adjust the power settings on battery.

The GPU only has a MUX switch, not advanced optimus. so If you're in dGPU mode, the GPU will always be on and wont sleep when its not being used, you'll need to set it to iGPU mode and restart the laptop, then the Nvida GPU will only fire up when it's call upon, but this will be in a passthrough mode so you'll have marginally less performance. As for the CPU, you can adjust the power settings, but laptop CPU's generally have a low base clock for this exact reason. you should be fine leaving it in performance or balanced mode

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

I'm not going to be game playing with my new laptop, I want to get into AI lora training and video/image production.
I was speaking to someone who told me that I'm wasting my money on such a high spec machine as it's going to permanently throttle because I have no desire to add a water cooler and I might as well buy a lower end laptop that will give the same performance as the high end throttled one.
The thing is I did consider something with a Nvidia 4090 but couldn't find anything with an AMD CPU.
The benefits, as I see it, for having the higher end model are that I can add 96gb of ram and the 5090 GPU has 24gb of Vram. surely this means I'm still making the right choice by going for the top end considering my use plan.
Anyone have any comments on this?

We did point that out at the very start a few times

AMD chassis are extremely popular and usually sell out within a few months of release, I doubt you’ll find any 4000 series AMD chassis now

The question remains, what’s your reticence with using the laptop without the watercooler?

Because, in my opinion it defeats the object of it being a laptop. with the water cooler it is no longer portable, apart from that I've seen Youtube tests where the magnetic coupling leaks with the slightest movement, I have no wish to have to deal with water on my desk especially around electrics. So what do you think? am I wasting my money bearing in mind my use case?
It seems the Nvidia 5090 cards for desktops have an issue with melting cabling so I couldn't go that route even if I wanted to, which I don't.

You said "We did point that out at the very start a few times" Yes you pointed out the machine will permanently throttle, which I accept, but you seem to have missed the context of my question in relation to that fact.
