Just ordered the most expensive laptop I never thought I'd need.

When they say I'm 27th in queue for the graphics card that is holding up my order, do they mean for the laptops specifically or for the desktop ones as well as I'd imagine there were more orders from the desktop ones?
Desktop cards are these and wider than the laptop

Mobile GPUs are like this, just a chip on the board, they’re not remotely connected to desktop GPUs aside from the silicon itself

But if you ordered the one you previously linked that isn’t released until the end of April so you’re waiting for the release date

I had an email to say I'm 27th in the queue, I understand that is not 27th in the build queue but 27th in the graphics card queue, Does this mean there are 27 LAPTOP orders in front of me waiting for that specific GPU?, Just wondering what the chance is of my order being fulfilled on the first delivery.

Laptops have the CPU and GPU soldered to the motherboard, so you're in line for that specific chassis.

The 2025 Recoil 16 has a split motherboard with a proprietary PCI connector between the 2 halves. That allows PCS so select the CPU side and GPU side as required and combine them into the chassis.

This video shows the XMG version, the XMG Neo 16. It's the same device though XMG and PCS might use different options but the principal is the same.

Interesting, at least if the GPU dies, you don't have to throw everything away (obviously expecting that spare parts would be available for several years after release, else it would be pointless). :)

Until you see the price and current value of your laptop ;)

It is great for any warranty failures etc though, massive step forward. There was nothing wrong with MXM for me.

I absolutely agree. :)
The problem is that if spares are already unavailable, say after a few years, this option is useless. It would be good for the duration of the warranty.

I think I can still buy a replacement MXM 1080 for my laptop. The price at the last view was ITRO £900 though (New). Looking around I can see I could purchase one for around £300, so there's at least the second hand market coming to the rescue.

If my card failed I certainly wouldn't be dropping £900 on my laptop but I would definitely consider £300.

What we need is this kind of thing to become a standard across manufacturers, both custom and branded, then the cost will come right down.

But this design is really good, makes sense across the board although I’m sure big players like Dell wouldn’t want to adopt it and keep their EVERYTHING MUST BE SOLDERED attitude

I suppose every connection is a potential fault liability and that's why Dell wouldn't be keen.
Not just for that reason. They want to keep it as expensive as possible for the customer to repair (or replace) whilst keeping it as cheap as possible to purchase themselves (by buying lots of identical, bare minimum spec SKUs).

Of course, Apple are the masters of this 👿

You can update to the 48GB anytime they're available. I wouldn't wait until you are at the front of the queue. As soon as they are in, add them to your build and that way you will have your place in line for the stock.
Will there ever be an option to have no RAM or SSD? as I plan to use spares that I already own

PCS only supply full systems, I think any SI does
I expect that RAM is needed to verify the system prior to sending, but I know XMG sell this laptop with the option of no SSD so I wondered if PCS would. I'm not too worried about saving £35 on a £3,000 system, its just reducing the e-waste. the SSD will end up in the secondary drive for when I eventually fill the 4TB drive I have for it. but the RAM will likely be thrown away.

Just checking my my specs over and drooling a little bit, I do love my tech. Anyway, I wonder why PCS don't offer me a platinum warranty like they do with some of the other laptops, the highest I can go is gold. Maybe they haven't the confidence in the parts on my build. LOL

Only Desktops have platinum option, all laptops max out at gold.

Laptops have a significantly shorter lifespan than a desktop.

This is completely normal.

XMG don't allow sale without an SSD either, no SI does. Impossible to warranty the system otherwise.

If you try on XMG, it won't allow you to proceed without any SSD selected
