From what I can see, GTX 1070s are almost all as expensive than the founders edition or more. There's one with a ~100MHz factory OC for a bit less at least but that's the best I can immediately see. Absolutely shocking prices. It's a joke, I hope they wear down in the next couple of weeks.

Are they not ALL founders editions though? I read that the 3rd parties were also jumping on the "Founders edition" bandwagon, only using their own branding.

I thought the prices were quite reasonable actually. They fall in line with the previous releases.

These are high end GPU's, not the cheap ones that we tell the console users that we can use to build machines to rival their machines.

Nah you do get custom versions, i think, and someone can correct me but you get the Founder Edition there all the same just you can get them from different manufactures, you get the custom cooler versions which seem to be the founder edition with a custom coolers and you then get the extreme versions (my words sorry) that have a custom PCB, Aftermarket Coolers and Water Cooling and higher clock speeds etc.

No I'm afraid they're not. I can't link to another retailer on these forums. But we have an MSI 1070 Aero (blower cooler, +~38MHz) at about +£7 off the founders edition, on one website and ~£20 less on another:
https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-GTX-1070-AERO-8G.html#hero-overview

If we look at the GTX 1080 founders, the GTX 108 SC by EVGA can be got ~£50 cheaper than the £619 founders price. The GTX 1080 however, is ~£10 more than the £399 founders price.

I wonder if this is because the Nvidia Website is (for the first time I've noticed anyway) selling GPUs directly (founders edition 1070 ofc)

I though you were talking about the price difference between this Generation and Last Generation eg 1080 against the 980 and the 1070 against the 970.

Founders edition of the 1070 is $70 above the MSRP. So we should be seeing some GTX 1070 prices out for much, much less than the founders. We're not. Hopefully that's just because they're day 1 prices.

You get the Founders edition: $449
Then you get ones that aren't a founder's edition but still have a reference PCB. They may have cheap blower coolers or something better like ACX. They may or may not have a small OC over reference speeds. Such as the MSI Aero (see 1080 Aero vs Founders). These should be somewhere around MSRP
After that, the slightly more upmarket reference PCB ones with a modest to decent OC (EVGA SC, that kind of thing) and usually the company's better cooling solution. In terms of 1080 prices these are usually between the MSRP and the Founders price.
Then you get the custom PCBs like EVGA FTW, which can still be cheaper than founders or around the same price.

If the Founders is $449 is the US and £399 here, that's 88.86%. 88.86% of MSRP is about £337.

I'm completely lost here lol.

I'm not really sure what the complaint is with the pricing to be honest. Is £399 not reasonable for the founders price compared to the £600+ 1080 price tag? Is there really a 1080 available for £410?

All things considered I thought the £ : performance ratio of the 1070 is excellent. Especially considering, that in the coming days/weeks the price will be down to around £330.

The complaint is not with the founder's edition pricing itself - the complaint is that the non-founders cards are priced the same as it despite having a $70 dollar lower MSRP. Can't put it any clearer than that.

What I meant was, the custom versions would probably be a varying price with the lesser extreme variants being cheaper than the "day 1" founder editions.

When the "Founder edition" is removed from the market will the prices not be substantially less and more in line with what we would expect?

Ahh I follow you now. Yes, there was something I read that said they were planning on doing just that and bring the prices in line with the founders. However, did they not also do that with the 1080?

Founders edition won't be removed from the market http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/nvidia-gtx-1080-1070-founder-edition-reference,news-52938.html

We’ve since come to find out that the Founders Edition is in fact simply the reference design. Nvidia has decided to move away from the "reference" nomenclature in exchange for the "Founders Edition title." The company said that the Founders Edition cards aren’t limited edition, either; Nvidia plans to have them available for the lifetime of the GTX 1080 and 1070.

Founders edition is basically the reference version with an early adopters tax as it is more available at first.

However, did they not also do that with the 1080?
non-founders 1080s were cheaper than founders on release day and are today. Like I said, EVGA SC is available £50 cheaper for example, while some 1080s are ~£525 vs the £619 founders.

I've cancelled both my custom board purchases and bought a founders edition card, was getting fed up with the delays and from all the research I've done, I think I'll still be able to get a stable 1950mhz overclock out of the FE card which is what I was hoping for from the Asus Strix or EVGA Classified. The only real downside will be fan noise which doesn't really bother me.

I ordered a Gigabyte branded one from Scan for next day delivery on Monday morning, got all confirmation emails and DPD app shows the parcel has been collected :)

Sorry, I meant about the classified EVGA. Are there any non-founder edition GPUs available or everything in stock is just founder editions?

Just FE's at the moment across all suppliers. There's one guy claiming he has stock of the ASUS strix on amazon, but I contacted him and he said delivery is delayed for at least 2 weeks which is just another way of saying I don't have any stock so you'll have to wait, plus he's charging a premium.

EVGA Classified is going to be a great card as it's one of the few with a custom VBIOS and has a crazy power phase design, but they haven't even confirmed clock speeds yet so I don't think the design is even finalised. There are suggestions it won't be available until August.

Currently, Asus Strix is showing as available 11th July.

1080 should be arriving this morning pre-12... I've been up since 3 cos I'm too excited to sleep, this wait is agonising. I've prepped the PC as much as possible without doing a full reinstall, just twiddling my thumbs now...

waiting... waiting... waiting...

Still waiting ? Haha.

It's a 5 minute swop, and another 5 installing the driver.
