We need a full screenshot of HWMonitor readings during prime 95, don't have chrome open, just prime 95

It will of course be non responsive, it's a torture test on the CPU, there's no available CPU for anything else.

So that all looks ok.

Have you installed all updates?

Have you installed any AV / driver updaters / chrome plugins? Anything of note?

Can you leave the laptop on idle and open task manager and sort processes by CPU and take a screenshot?

i've left auto-update on, so...

what is AV? driver updater, no. chrome plugins: only UBlock origin and Honey

will do that last

AV is anti virus.

I would uninstall ublock and honey see if browser performance improves.

I'd also install malwarebytes and do a full scan including rootkits.

First thing you do with a new PC is install all updates, you have to manually do this or it isn't configured yet.

yeah i have bitdefender pro. ivehad it since i got the laptop and this lag was not there.

this lagging on chrome is a new thing, it wasnt there the past 4 months i've had all the extensions.
also the laggy behaviour is present in a really low-intensity offline game too. Hell MS word lags by a significant fraction of a second when typing.

i'll get malware bytes

another thing, when i use RTSS and MSI Afterburner when gaming for an OSD performance display, it gives me total nonsense the left side of the screen starts flickering instead of giving me OSD. here is a screenshot:-

There’s nothing wrong with the laptop, your windows is borked, many many things wrong. I would suggest a full malware

I would do a full reinstall from scratch.

Don‘t use bitdefender, it’s pointless, start with windows defender which is just as good, get everything setup with drivers and make sure it’s working stably. DONT install chrome plugins.

Fairly certain it’s a software issue though, but reinstall will tell if it’s that or the SSD

I wonder whether you've had a driver update recently via Windows Update (esp a GPU driver update)? Can you go to your update history in settings, scroll down and expand the Driver Updates section. Any recent updates there?

For that matter, are there any Quality Updates just prior to you noticing this problem?

Edit: I just cross-posted with Spyder-Tracks. I certainly would agree that there comes a point in troubleshooting problems like this when a clean reinstall (from freshly downloaded bootable media) is a faster and more reliable solution. It is, as SpyderTracks says, the only way to tell whether you have a hardware issue.

In that case a clean install is a must. You need an 8GB (min) USB stick and the Windows Media Creation Tool from here https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

It will wipe everything on the drive (unless you manually partitioned the drive?)

None of this has any relevance to troubleshooting. DONT install either the plugins or the AV for troubleshooting, it needs to be clean installation and then just your games, no addons no nothing or it makes troubleshooting redundant.
