Well, my first attempt didn't work - changed it from Auto to DOCP, and the PC just refused to start up - got to the logo screen and just sat there until I hit the reboot button...then the same thing, but I got a BSOD. I then rebooted it again, went into the BIOS and set it back to Auto and it...
My new PC arrived yesterday and is AWESOME! And that's even with the RAM running at just 2666MHz, so today I'll do some research about tweaking that DOCP - from a quick search it looks fairly straightforward, but I may be back here asking for more advice!
Interestingly, an After Effects project...
I've gone ahead and ordered 128GB (4x 32GB) of the Patriot RAM:
Patriot Viper Steel 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C18 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit (PVS464G360C8K)
Let's hope the RAM and my PC arrives next week and I can get it all up and running OK, and might be back here for DOCP-related help.
(I've...
So assuming I went for 3600MHz and tweaked the DOCP (which I'd have to learn all about!), does anyone have any recommendations? I've managed with my current, rock-stable PC (honestly can't remember the last time I had a BSOD - must be years ago) without ECC RAM (although I previously used Mac...
Thanks for your reply.
...So I might be wasting my money going with 3600MHz and should stick with 3200MHz? Wouldn't that slow my system a bit? I'm looking to squeeze every last bit of performance out of it, without sacrificing reliability.
I'm slightly concerned about the proliferation of BSODs when using 4x RAM units with AMD processors in relation to this thread:

I'm looking to buy 128GB RAM for my (currently being tested by...
I kid ye not! I just need to order some RAM (hopefully 4x 32GB units) now...been having conversations elsewhere on this forum about RAM speeds/availability/price/recommendations. If anyone wants to add their thoughts, I'm all ears!
In case it's of any interest, after a lot of research, I went for an AMD 5950X and RTX3090 for my motion graphics (mainly After Effects, some Premiere Pro and some Cinema 4D) "mega machine" which is - hopefully - being built as I type this! The Intel CPUs didn't seem to fair very well against...
While the 5950X can "take" over 4800MHz, would there be any benefit to using RAM that fast (and presumably more expensive) compared to, say, 3200MHz? I don't know if there would be bottlenecks elsewhere in the system that would negate using RAM that fast. (I'm just guessing here - I am by no...
I did just spec the min. RAM and will buy 128GB RAM separately - anyone got any thoughts on what would be the most suitable RAM for my setup? (4 slots, so 4x 32GB modules, and a 5950X processor. Obviously I don't want the speed of the RAM to slow anything down, but equally there's no point...
My daily driver is a Lotus Elise S. I wish they (or Tesla) would make an electric version of it (like the original Tesla Roadster, not that silly $250,000 one they're bringing out) mainly so I don't feel bad when I do the occasional very short trip in cold weather, worrying about the wear and...
Seeing as PCS don't seem to sell any 32GB DIMMs faster than 3000, then maybe I should spec it with "throwaway RAM"; something like 4GB of 2400MHz and then buy some decent RAM separately.
Right - I just went ahead and ordered this. I guess I'll have plenty of opportunity to change things (at the risk of being bumped to the back of the queue) because it's not going to be built any time soon, with that 5950X!

I'm on the phone to them right now - they reckon the 3000MHz RAM (which I can spec to 128GB) will be sufficient for the 5950X. Is that accurate? I don't want the RAM slowing things down.
The biggest DIMMs they offer at 3200 and faster is 16GB, not 32GB.
Thanks for your suggestions and input! Any reason why PCS don't offer 32GB modules at anything faster than 3000MHz? It'd be a shame if I wanted to upgrade to 128GB in future to have to rip out all those 16GB modules and replace them with 32GB ones. Would I really not notice any difference...
