The drive I was testing (a 2TB one) is not the OS (the OS is also a 980 PRO, but the 1TB version). I'll have to be more rigorous in moving projects off the M.2 drive onto my backup drives to keep the fullness down!
Crystal DiskMark reports this (pasted below)...write speeds seem a little slow.
@ubuysa Yes, I agree - 1080p video should not cause any issues at all on my system. Maybe it's just Adobe being a bit weird sometimes!
@Bhuna50 I might give that a go when I get the chance - probably not this month...
Hello,
A few months ago I received my PCS PC (spec pasted below), complete with a 1TB Samsung 980 PRO (system drive) and a 2TB Samsung 980 PRO (working/projects drive), plus an 8TB "ready for archiving" drive. I've not been impressed with the speed of the system sometimes when playing back video...
I assumed that giving the RAM some more juice might be the issue. I've previously overclocked a system, balancing the voltage/speed etc, so assume it's a similar process with RAM, but I've never tweaked RAM speed before I got this system. As you know, @NoddyPirate , I've gone on about this RAM...
Well, I've been using the system successfully for a couple of weeks. I got the chance this morning to update the BIOS to 3604 and AGESA to ComboV2_1201PatchA. This seems to have fixed the audio popping issue (discussed elsewhere on this forum) which is great. I then tried turning up the wick on...
Ha! No such luck on the memory front...I turned it up to 3400MHz, and immediately noticed the old window-redraw glitches were back. I tried to run an After Effects test anyway, but as soon as I set it rendering, I got a BSOD with the stopcode: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT. Guess that must be something to...
I've just done a BIOS update (to 3604) and the popping seems to have gone!! I'll keep my ears open and update this if it comes back. Next thing to try is pushing the memory speed towards the magic 3600MHz!
My BIOS is currently on: version 3403 x64, build date 01/14/2021
AGESA: Version ComboV2_1200
And I'm currently waiting for a Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool to run - evidently it takes a long time to test 128GB! I've (probably foolishly) cranked it up (today) from 3200MHz to 3333MHz.
I wonder if updating the BIOS might also fix my memory speed issues? (I purchased 3600MHz RAM but it won't run reliably any faster than 3200MHz, as I've been going on about here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/four-ram-cards-in-amd-build-worries.80749/).
Thanks for your suggestions, @NoddyPirate .
I previously tried tweaking those sound settings you suggested and it made no difference. As I mentioned, it's not a 'dirty connection' crackle because the system is perfectly silent when there's no audio playing and the 'pop....pop' about half a...
I recently received my PCS PC, and have noticed a weird audio defect. The motherboard is an ASUS® ROG STRIX X570-F GAMING (USB 3.2 Gen 2, PCIe 4.0) and I'm using the standard audio-out (stereo) on the rear, going into my powered M-Audio speakers (which work perfectly with my older PC). I've...
THANK YOU! I did that - the battery was a REAL PAIN to remove, without resorting to using anything metallic, eg. a screwdriver, to prise it out. Used a very small wooden clothes peg in the end! And started it up - it went straight into the olde worlde American Megatrends BIOS thing; I then...
So shortly after I posted that screenshot, I restarted it, went into the BIOS again, and thought I'd try setting the memory to 3400MHz, then exited the BIOS thing...it started to reboot, but nothing - just a black screen. I waited a good 5 minutes, while nothing at all happened (fans & lights are...
I went ahead and ran DDU (twice, in safe mode, disconnected from the internet) then (still disconnected) installed the game drivers. I then loaded up my trusty, crashy, After Effects project and set it rendering. Better news - this time, After Effects actually threw a proper error rather than...
The RAM that came with the build was a single stick of 4GB. I thought it was 2666MHz for some reason (as I mentioned above), but it was actually 2400:
4GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 2400MHz (1 x 4GB)
When I first received the machine, I fired it up, did the Windows install thing, checked it all...
I assume you're talking about the Nvidia drivers? Yes, Studio drivers or whatever they call the non-gaming ones these days.
BUT - I just ran another test on that After Effects project, with GPU rendering OFF, and After Effects still crashed! Weird. Maybe my PC just really hates that particular...
Well, I ran some Windows updates and installed the latest chipset drivers. I think I was running at 3200MHz, and did that same After Effects render and After Effects crashed. Just for fun, I then tried cranking up the RAM to 3600MHz, and the thing wouldn't even boot into Windows. I'm currently...
Thanks @SpyderTracks and @Ash_ for your help so far!
I guess I'd just follow this to install the chipset drivers? https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/chipset-install
I updated to the latest Nvidia drivers today. My specs:
Case
CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE
Processor (CPU)...
...and it's totally unstable even at a lowly 3200MHz, which is obviously incredibly disappointing. Had lots of black-screen-flashes, but the system continued to function, then a BSOD/stopcode. I assume there must be some tweaking I can do to get this thing working as it should?!
I clocked it down to 3200MHz (the PC came with 2666MHz RAM and was set to that) and it started up ok. I've now set it to 3400MHz; I'll try 3533MHz next.
