I`d suggest using a regular USB hard drive or external USB NVMe for that reason . I have a dual NVMe USB-C dock that works superb for backups and such . Just a minor caveat ... they get very hot :-) But performance wise it is awesome . Roughly 1000 MB/s Read/write sequential speed .
If I`m not misstaken the RTX3080 in the Valeon has a maximum TGP of 150w , 10 more than the RTX3070 with 140w TGP . No huge gains comparison wise . There is a review of it under the name of Eluktronics Promethius XVII on youtube . Same TongFang chassi as Valeon , just a different name .
I just watched the 1st and 2nd Cannonball Run movies :-) 80"s comedy at it`s best , plus the 1st one has a mega star studded cast , well worth watching :)
I`m also no fan of the G9 ... for mixed usage and correct angles and color reproduction ,I would not pick this one as the steep curve gives distortion of the image. Better to select a 34-38" IPS SuperWide screen with less curvature . It also require quite a deep desk to be used ( if using the...
I would suggest two changes , 1: Drop Bullguard Antivirus as Windows Defender is a much better product and is included in the OS and 2: I would increase the wattage of the PSU to atleast 650-700w for eventual future upgrades . Always good to have a bit of headroom when it comes to the power...
Faster memory can actually give a few extra fps in games , especially if we are talking about low latency memory . That CPU can make use of DIMMs rated up to 2933 Mhz for a performance boost .
I myself have always been allergic to subscriptions and found that the regular MS Office Retail suite sufficient and once purchased you will own those programs and that license forever . But each to his own I guess :-)
Like @SpyderTracks mentioned RTX3000 has gone with a downscaled GPU spec compared to previous gen which was only 5-10% slower than their desktop counderparts . The RTX2080 Super Mobile version in it`s final highest spec was running at 200w TGP and was just 5-6 % behind the desktop 2080 Super...
Just to get an understanding why an RTX 3080 might perform less in the Valeon compared to the Recoil 17" I`ve posted a pic of the cooling of my Valeon with the RTX3070 , the cooling is the same for the RTX3080 Valeon . As the picture shows the cooling system has it`s limitations.

I get around 2.5 hours at most with the iGP activated ( ie the Radeon Vega 8 ) and in " office " mode with the Valeon . But that is mostly due to it´s smallish 62WHr battery . Had it had a larger one I bet it would have made 6-9 hrs .
Actually the Recoil 17" do cover 100 % sRGB , 72 % NTSC is equal to 100 % sRGB , just another way of labling it . It does not cover however I believe 100 % Adobe RGB , very few laptop screen do . In terms of the Valeon I`m not saying that the RTX3080 is slow or bad ... it has it`s benefits...
In simple terms , yes ... but it is quite a bit more expensive and it needs two power supplies and weighs in about twice as the Valeon . Pro`s and con`s for both systems
I think you missunderstood me , I`m not talking about RTX 3080 vs 3070 in general , but actually the ones in the Valeon specifically . Check this thread and you see why , https://www.pcspecialist.ie/forums/threads/real-users-benchmarks-rank-of-pcs-laptops.76665/
. The RTX 3080 in the Recoil...
The 3080 in the Valeon is not that much faster than the 3070 . check the benchmark list in the forum . The only benefit I might see is the added 8 GB VRAM , but that is about that . The Valeon is temp restricted to properly make full use of the 3080 . Only DTR`s are able to maximize the full...
I`d recommend the Steve McQueen epic Bullitt ...just an awesome move still today . Stunt driving there is off the scale considering the age of the film.
Carrying a 4.5 kgs laptop + 700g charging brick + accessories is certainly a challenge :-) But with the right backpack and some well chosen curses it is doable :-) Today´s superslim laptops trying to do the same thing as a DTR is a cause for disaster . Just look at the many threads about...
I second that , DTR laptops are big and bulky , nothing one would carry around for longer times , although I did do some extensive traveling with my previous laptop which was a DTR , but then again I could not be without it :-)
You probably need a laptop with bigger cooling , more in terms of an desktop replacement laptop . I could name a few , but because this is a PCS forum for PCS builds only , I`m not allowed .
Kind of what I had expected , hence not sending it in. I`m not dragging PCS to court just for a laptop ... it is pointless . Now it is clear as day that the best solution is to actually sell it and be done with the issue and PCS . I`ve had many laptops over the years, but none have had issues...
