I've started playing WoW and I'm enjoying it so far. It took under 12 hours to patch but it was worth the time. I think the realms need improving though, many have way more Horde or Alliance than the other. I'm an Undead Mage on Wildhammer.

There's not a lot Blizzard can do about it unless they offer free realm transfers for one side. Although, if the majority of people are fairly happy with their current realm many won't bother. I'm not sure how it is now but when I used to play on Mazrigos EU we (Horde) always used to outnumber alliance at least 4:1, don't think we ever lost Nagrand or a Wintergrasp battle.bother

WOW is it still big

Hi all getting my new pc soon and have brought WOW so got a couple of questions, First are people still playing WOW because I have wanted to play it for years and just hoping im not going be dissapointed?, Second I got the battle chest that has WOW and Burning Crusade should I play through WOW first, then install the expansion or should I just install all and then play.

Cheers

You should have downloaded to the free trial and found out if you like the game or not before buying it but since you already have it install both to unlock all of the races. You'll need the wrath of the lich king expansion for level 71-80 and the death knight class though.

Yeah 13,000,000+ people, it's grown every year since it launched but it will depend on what server you pick(recommended/low/medium/high/full) in terms of how many people will be online at any given time.

Hehe, I'd go for a low/medium PVP populated server to make sure that there'll be enough people in your level range for instances but not so many that they'll cause the server to lag.

yer id try the trial first, before you buy as it all adds up for the add-ons but you might as well wait till the 7th dec as the world gets a big re-vamp then ;)

Before then! Probably Next Week!

Have my pre-order ready, my computer ready, my holiday booked from work! I can't wait to play hardcore for a few days, since I haven't done it in a while being honest. Been a bit occupied with SC2 on Multiplayer atm with a few friends although we do suck we are improving now (rank 1 in bronze league,.. lol ) , just need to learn to counter the rush a bit better.

Hope to be playing again soon my warrior is pretty dam geared right now, but nothing to do on there right now, most of my guild is inactive until cata is released. I'm not in a super hardcore guild but my guild did manage 11/12 ICC25 HC , and we quit when summer came (due to slackers including myself).

I do like a bit of PVP though the queues are horrid on my server now!

Ok so I am playing wow on my first gaming rig, all the settings on ultra and 1080 but I am only getting between 120 and 200 fps is this good or not as I hear that people can get like 400 fps.

Yes thats good.

If people are claiming 400 fps they are running a monster of a rig and or just lying.

On the average tft screen they arnt actually seeing 340 of those 400 fps.

Because the human eye can only see 60 fps or that's as I understand it. Also I know everybody says that the graphics are not great but I actually really like them, I think they are pretty good exept for the bushes are are a bit fake.

The human eye doesnt really see in fps like a monitor displays, the way the eye works is more like a light sensor which sees a stream of information, not a camera which captures frames if that makes any sense.

The 60 fps is the average amount of frames a normal tft monitor can display, this limitation is the refresh rate. True 120 mhz monitors like the 3d ones can display more or even old school CRT's but not many people are using them.

So a GPU putting out 400 fps to an average monitor which can only refresh around 60 times per second is just sending 300+ frames to nowhere.

So what is "Enough fps"? I don't know, because nobody went there so far. Maybe 120fps is enough, maybe you will get headaches after 3 hours. Seeing framewise is simply not the way how the eye\brain system works. It works with a continuous flow of light\information. (Similar to the effects of cameras' flashlights ("red eyes"): flashing is simply not the way how we see). So there are still questions. Maybe you need as much as 4000fps, maybe less, maybe more.

The same question as for fps will arise for resolution. How many pixels can the human eye see? Does 2000x1000 (=Star Wars Episode II resolution) look like reality? Or is it just enough to make a film "cinemable"?

Even the most expensive monitors(3d-ready ones) can't show more than 120fps so getting 300+ isn't really a big deal. You'd be better off putting a cap on the frame limit to reduce the workload for your graphics card to reduce the heat and noise.
