What I'm playing

I've got a few games on the go

Genshin Impact - anime stuff isn't my usual thing but I quite like this. PAIMON is pretty funny tbh.
Red Dead Redemption 2 - giving it a third playthrough now that I can play it maxed out. Might actually get platinum this time!
Dragon's Dogma 2 - dipping in and out of this but travel is so tedious I kind of get sick of it.
Eve Online - been playing since the start but usually only play it seriously every couple of months
Mass Effect Legendary Edition - working my way through the first one again. Starting to get hooked!
Throne and Liberty - the new MMO from Amazon. Graphically very nice but it could not be more generic in terms of story/art direction.
Some solid choices there!

So the wishlist is down to 1554 games. I've got rid of 400 games in the last week!

Steam Next Fest starts tomorrow, so that number will start going up again. Apparently there's going to be 3000 games on show for the Fest, all of them with demos!

Most of the games I've removed have been a mix of announced games that haven't had any kind of update in at least 2 years so are probably abandoned, or Early Access games with no updates for 12 months. I've come across a publisher, PlayWay, who spam create Steam store pages, then make the games that hit a certain threshold of wishlists. They've got so many games with no release date that will almost certainly never be made. Kinda sad really, but having seen their name pop up again and again on my wishlist, I won't be adding any more of their games until I see an actual release!

There's also been a few games where I've tried the demo and although the idea has caught my eye, the execution just hasn't been there, so I'm no longer interested.

Play Noita - you won't regret it.

It's a pixel art roguelike where every pixel is individually simulated giving it a really cool sense of depth. The second video on the Steam store page has an explosion a few seconds in which leads to water cascading everywhere. I've done similar myself by starting fires!

No, you got carried away and installed 300 games at once!

While i'm waiting for the release of Civ-VII next year, i'm playing ARA-History Untold to fill the time: it's tricky finding a balance between your economy, military and prestige in order to advance through the Acts, but after a rocky start i'm getting into it. The graphics look garish from a distance but zoom in and the world really comes to life. Excellent music for each era gives a vivid backgroud to play along and i've reached the "one-more-turn" stage to create national wonders. A wonderful way to waste a wintery day.

ARA has been on my radar since it was announced at that Xbox event alongside the Indiana Jones game. I've not quite got around to getting it yet, but some day...

I'm playing it on PC and found it complicated at first...not only founding cities but fiddling about with amenities and raw materials, finding the best location for food and resources, establishing trade and defending from enemies, researching technology and gaining enough prestige to ensure you don't fall far behind and get knocked out at the end of Act one or two - i haven't made it to Act three yet. :( But i'm getting the hang of it, and remain hopeful Woozy Ten of China will get me to the modern age intact this time.

The goblin that lives in my house is finally in a normal sleeping routine so I've a few hours at night to actually turn my PC on again which is nice

Been playing NIMRODS Guncraft and it's great. If any of you is looking for a Vampire Survivors type game that seems fairly deep look no further, been having a blast with it but fair warning it's suuuuper grindy to unlock stuff but I'm having fun

Glad things are going well with the goblin.

NIMRODS was already on my radar - of course! All the Vampire Survivors-type games are super grindy, but the grind can be fun, so I'm onboard with most of them!

I love that style of game to be honest, Halls of Torment and Death Must Die are two other brilliant examples

I adore Vampire games, will definitely have a look at that one.

Well done on getting past the initial sleepless period! Have nothing but respect for the capacity of parents with young kids, truly superhuman.

Firewatch is fun. It can be a little emotional if the first 5 to 10 minutes hits home. I enjoyed uncovering the mystery.
Just got to the bit where he's found the dangling rucksack, and told her he's married, really enjoying it, I wasn't 100%with like the intro, but then really got into it

Currently got 3 games on the go - Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Metaphor: ReFantazio & TOEM: A Photo Adventure.

Infinite Wealth has been one of my personal games of the year as I mentioned in the thread on the topic. It's a JRPG that I've been working on all year and with now more than 127 hours in the game, I'm on the second to last chapter. I think I'll have completed the main story at some point in the next week or so, then another few weeks into 2025 I should have completed the side content that I've not got around to yet. It's a big boy (as JRPGs tend to be), but the finish line is in sight!

Metaphor: ReFantazio is another JRPG that was in contention for game of the year, but I bought after hearing there are Scousers on the voice acting cast list. It's going to be an 80 or so hour game. The only real criticism I have of it so far is that it has some lengthy cutscenes that can't be paused, so I can only really play the game when I'm certain I'm not going to be disturbed by the real world. I'll get it finished at some point in spring/summer 2025 hopefully.

TOEM: A Photo Adventure is a hand-drawn adventure game about photography. It involves exploring various areas and solving puzzles, typically by finding and taking photographs of objects. This is another game I expect I'll have completed in the next week or two - potentially might spend a sizable chunk of Boxing Day on it.
