I've just bought Alan Wake Remastered and Alan Wake 2 from the Epic Games store. 75% off the former and 50% off the latter. I still have 5 days off from work so they should keep me busy until then.

Also bought Firewatch after it was mentioned above. Might start that this evening.

Currently got 3 games on the go - Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Metaphor: ReFantazio & TOEM: A Photo Adventure.

Infinite Wealth has been one of my personal games of the year as I mentioned in the thread on the topic. It's a JRPG that I've been working on all year and with now more than 127 hours in the game, I'm on the second to last chapter. I think I'll have completed the main story at some point in the next week or so, then another few weeks into 2025 I should have completed the side content that I've not got around to yet. It's a big boy (as JRPGs tend to be), but the finish line is in sight!

Metaphor: ReFantazio is another JRPG that was in contention for game of the year, but I bought after hearing there are Scousers on the voice acting cast list. It's going to be an 80 or so hour game. The only real criticism I have of it so far is that it has some lengthy cutscenes that can't be paused, so I can only really play the game when I'm certain I'm not going to be disturbed by the real world. I'll get it finished at some point in spring/summer 2025 hopefully.

TOEM: A Photo Adventure is a hand-drawn adventure game about photography. It involves exploring various areas and solving puzzles, typically by finding and taking photographs of objects. This is another game I expect I'll have completed in the next week or two - potentially might spend a sizable chunk of Boxing Day on it.

I finished TOEM last night as expected. I'm going to add Frog Detective 2 into my short-term game slot.

The first Frog Detective game took me about 45 minutes to complete - the second and third games are about 90 minutes to two hours so I may be able to complete both of those today or tomorrow. I really like the handdrawn art style of these games and I bought the 3 game bundle at about a tenner in order to support the devs as much as I reasonably could. As I tend to play more indie-type games these days, I'm happy enough to buy some games at near enough full price now and then.

I started What Remains of Edith Finch last night. 75% off on Steam at the moment.

I'm trying to make more of an effort to play Indie games by smaller devs and branch out to games that wouldn't usually be on my radar.

Only played about 25 minutes last night, but it's been a very positive start.

I love that game. It packs an emotional gutpunch or two depending on your life experiences, but as a snapshot of a family tree over a few generations, I liked it. Having minigames across different genres was a pretty cool twist as a storytelling mechanic too.

As an indie game nut, I would recommend pretty much anything released by Annapurna Interactive up until Lorelei and the Laser Eyes which released in May 2024. The company's entire staff resigned in September though, so although they've apparently got a few games coming out next year, the quality can't be guaranteed on their future releases. Edith Finch is one of theirs from a few years back and pratically everything they've released since then has been a hit!

Completed the two Frog Detective games as planned. Also managed to finally complete the final game in The Blackwell series, Epiphany - it's been on my to do list for ages, but never quite got around to it. The Blackwell games are among the best point & click games that have been released in the last couple of decades.

I've now got Bakeru as my "smaller" title alongside the previously mentioned Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Bakeru is a level based 3D platformer, not too disimilar to the Crash Bandicoot games. Like the Crash games, it contains collectables, so most levels will need careful exploration or will need to be replayed a few times to get everything. One thing that's pretty cool is that the game map covers Japan and levels represent different Japanese prefectures - there are 47 prefectures and more than 50 levels. I bought it on release in September, but burnt myself out as I wasn't really in the right head space for this kind of game. By being a little more organised in how I play games now, I can pace myself through the game and will probably complete it at some point in January.
