Nice budget - you should easily get full 3d surround system with that kinda budget! - yeah it is Quad Sli but there are only 2 actual cards - each 690 has two gpu's on board.

You are gaming in 1 monitor and a SLI gtx 680 will give you +60fps in probably every game at the moment. Diminishing returns will also kick in the more GPUs you have in your system, you could consider spending a fraction of your budget and just upgrade in 2-3 years time.

I think the main point there was "need" if you can afford it then hell why not. If you're not looking for high fps 3d surround gaming, you don't need to spend massive money to get an epic rig, afterall you wont be spending best part of 1.5K on monitors.
