My New Rig!

I have just read through all 13 pages of this. As someone commenting who has given no advice and is just an observor... I have to say that you are the most ridiculous person in the world.

Firstly, I have a pet hate for people that spend all their parents money. You claim you have worked hard for it, then why is it not in your savings account and instead it is coming from mummy? Secondly, mummy must have got some idea from you as to how much money you'd need for a pc. My mum would guess they cost around £500, she was shocked when she found out I was spending my money on a £1000 rig as she had no idea they cost that much. Thirdly, I don't know how old you are but if I was being given £4500, I would be asking for a car or for it to be put into a savings account for a car. Fourthly, you will never learn the value of money when you realise that £4500 is a huge amount of money to spend on a pc that you haven't even earnt. Fifthly (are these even words anymore?), if it was my mum, I would be getting constant grief as when you turn it on the first time and she watches you use her £4500, her reaction will be "is that it?" and you will spend years explaining to her why it was worth spending £4500 on a computer to play BF3 when you could spend £1000 and get an identical version. My mum gives me grief about mine and it wasn't even her money that I spent, it was my money that I'd earnt from working 9:00-5:30pm monday to friday.

At the end of the day it's up to you. I know it's a one-off treat and she's given you £4500 but I don't know where she's got that figure from and why she feels you need to spend that much to buy a computer. If she runs a business, she should see that there are much more important things to save for such as a car or university especially with today's fees. Obviously you're an only child and spoilt rotten as I have friends very similiar to you who don't pay rent, car insurance, etc and then go out and spend £600 on custom wheels for their Volkswagen Lupo's. I just think you're extremely daft and shouldn't have even posted on these forums. You asked for advice yet when people who have helped thousands of people try to help you blatantly ignore it and still go for an overkill machine. I'd personally go for Tiberius's/Tom's build for around £2000 (can't remember which)but that's just my opinion. I spent £1015 on mine, i5 processor, 8gb ram, 2gb GTX 670 and it runs everything perfectly on my 32 inch lcd tv but if you really want to see those specs of dust fall off the trees in battlefield then sure, go spend £4500.:santa:

Rant over.

P.s. please don't go for fast track so that we can have 9-11 working days of your mum chasing where the computer is and why her money has been spent with nothing to show for it.

Well, I respect your comment, and yes I agree i's overkill, but it's got to last a really long time my Mum says ( Please refer to her as my Mum), so coul you understand why I ave gone overkill it needs to last a long time, by the way I'm 12 so no Uni or cars for me for a bit!

I can understand your mum not wanting to give you the left over money, but maybe you could suggest say half the money for a computer now, and half for another new computer in 1.5-2 years time? Your computer money would have a much longer life that way.

At the moment you've pretty much got a premiership footballer spec - basically spending loads of extra money for pretty much no increase in performance. Fine if you're earning £200k/week as spending a few hours salary on your new PC is loose change. But for the rest of us there are usually more sensible options.

Lots of time and valuable advice in this thread:you'd do well to take some on board. My 2cents - 4k at your age is all the money in the world. Don't blow it all on a pc - you can satisfy your needs for a grand easy, 2 k if you want three screens. No amount of screens will help you meet girls. Trust me.

My machine for £1000 will probably last 3-4 years without an upgrade. Yes I may need to gradually turns specs down on new games after a couple of years but it will still run fine. A machine that costs £4500 has a lot more that could go wrong with it in the long run and it could give you more grief than it's worth. Plus, technology will outdate itself no matter how much you spend. Somebody that bought a Ford Focus 10 years ago brand new with all of the optional extra's to make it 'last longer' will still only have a car that is worth the same as a 10 year old Ford Focus with no electric windows or central locking. At the end of the day it would still be a standard car that meets people's needs no matter what extra's are on it. What you are purchasing is a machine with optional extra's that you will never ever need and will have wasted money on.

On a sensible note, if you are certain on spending that much money, you need to invest in a triple monitor display otherwise it will be like driving a 500bhp car on a 60mph restricted road everyday. I'm enjoying my motoring metaphors today.

Please listen to this advice. It is an identical spec to mine except it contains better memory and an SSD. It is perfectly fine to game with your friends. You have no need for anything like 3D modelling or editing, you don't need to spend £4000. Please show your Mum this forum.

Thanks for being so kind and understanding, does the iiyama 24" inch 120Hz refresh and 1 ms response?

I'm just having a blast going through this thread. :D I'm not gonna suggest a spec cuz obviously you want to spend those £4500 so go ahead!

The only thing I'll say is that the Rampage is suited for extreme overclockers who know how to overclock in the BIOS and know every tweak in the book, whereas you'll most likely end up increasing the CPU frequency and the load-line calibration in asus suite and leave it to that, and that would be perfectly fine to reach an overclock of 4.6.
I bet you picture yourself tweaking every setting and getting an awesome overclock but the truth is you'll most likely not end up doing anything drastic when you finally realize that you've got a £4500 rig in your hands.

Now can you answer this question, not trying to be insulting or anything. Are you reluctant to get a surround setup because you don't need it or because you've managed to convince your mum that a good PC costs £4500 and showing up with 3 screens in surround wouldn't be too good to keep the illusion going?

I'd personally go with a much cheaper but upgradeable rig and upgrade the components as I go along and start needing them instead of getting a super expensive rig and not use 20% of its capabilities for most of its lifespan, but as I said I'm not trying to convince you, at this point just get whatever you fancy.
