I don't get to go to the cinema anymore because I have a two yr old, but if I did, this...

Yes, I am the one who likes going to the cinema early on weekend mornings cos there are never many people about.

Definitely.

PS. sorry for spoiling that clean rep score.

I still don't really understand why they created the 12A rating, you see plenty of under 12's in them! Whats worse is you see plenty of children who are really too young to the films and they just end up making a lot of noise and disturbing everyone else!

I think it was just meant to publicise that it's aimed at over 12's but there's nothing really in it that's going to disturb somebody under the age of 12 apart from the odd use of bad language, etc. Most 12's pan away during violence, don't show nudity or have anything too drug/alcohol related in them that it can be a parents discretion if they take their kid to it. As far as I know a group of 10 years olds still can't go in without an adult though :L

Kids in cinemas drive me mad though. They ruined my whole experience of Despicable me 2 and Planes.. I know I should have expected release days to be busy but the amount of kids in there was too damn high.

You're obviously the sensible one, I've been to films where adults have taken 1-2 year olds in, and lets face it no matter what the film is, a 1-2 year old will not stay quiet for that long, nor will they be watching the film.

Unless its Toy Story or Finding Nemo, nothing will hold his attention for more than 10mins. I'd never take him to the cinema, not yet anyway. People you describe drive me up the wall. There are parent and baby showings at a cinema near me so at least if you go, you're all in the same boat. But outside of that, its not fair to everyone. Bad cinema etiquette is definitely a pet hate of mine.

Just thought I'd throw in my experiences of the game so far after about 2 hours of gameplay last night (it would have been more if it wasn't for the football).

It's alright. The graphics are okay but I really don't know why everybody's getting so worked up about them.. Sleeping Dogs on the PC looked 10x better in my opinion. Gameplay is decent, walking on foot feels quite sluggish and realistic and punching somebody in the face and knocking them out by accident always feels pretty good. Shooting is quite 'thumpy' as well and you don't feel like you're using a pea-shooter all the time. It seems everybody wants to know about the driving though.. The best way to explain it is it's average really. The first few cars you use are either a truck on ice or an Audi R8 weaving through traffic. Both these cars feel very twitchy and start drifting at the slightest touch of the analog stick. At first this makes the driving mechanism feel like a disaster but you soon see once you start getting in normal cars that it's pretty good. Quite arcadey but not bad at all. They barely slide and actually feel pretty sturdy and grippy. The amount of damage you can take in a vehicle compared to on foot is ridiculous though.

The missions seem to be getting decent although the whole character switching thing can get a tad confusing. And for those that have played it, you'll know about the horrendous experience with a dog.

I'm no games reviewer but overall I would say it's worth picking up but not worth stressing out if you can't get it quite yet. I'm sure it will only get better as I'm only 4 or 5 missions in but so far it just feels like any other open world game to me. Plus I'm finding TONS of things that are bugging me because of the stupid AI. I'll stop because I don't want to keep sounding negative but basically I genuinely believe all this hype has been by fanboys and sole console gamers who have never seen a game being played on a PC. Lack of AA, decent textures and Shadow effects really becomes prominent when you go back to a game that doesn't really have them. I know it's not just about the graphics but so far I haven't found anything that is revolutionary to the genre, although I appreciate it's early days and I haven't had chance to do things like fly, cycle or scuba yet.

I think it should get some kind of Grimezy scoring system...

Yeah say Audi R8, are they using licensed cars or do you mean that's when the car is knocking off?

Is there Co-op that works or is that a 2 week wait too?

Great idea Smoke! Empower me! Based on 2 hours of gameplay, and 4 or 5 missions played, I would be scoring it around 7/10. My problem is I don't feel compelled to play the story so already I'm trying to entertain myself by free roaming and I'm not really sure if you unlock everything until you've done more of the missions as I've tried going to the bike rental place and hiring a bike but it wouldn't let me and then I accidentally knocked the guy out and now I think he's dead (I'm farely sure I'm gonna have to do the mission to get the bikes there unless I find them randomly while roaming). I've also tried to fly a jet but apparently it's not 'cool' to drive into an army base uninvited and I soon had 20 guys, a chopper and a tank shooting at me before I could even get off runway.

I think it's different to games like Sleeping Dogs and Mafia 2 as they always pushed you to do the story and it was very enjoyable to do so. Free roaming didn't really offer much so you were happy to focus on the story. With GTA the story hasn't been all that compelling yet and finding things to do in the first couple of hours by free roaming is pretty difficult. I am expecting it to perk up massively but so far it's very average.

As for the cars, they're not licensed but it doesn't take a genius to work them out. The Audi rings have been sneakily disguised as 'cut in half' Audi rings and it's very obvious by the shapes of the cars what they are.

Not sure about co-op mate, as far as I know it's not working yet but will check tonight!

Update on my experience so far as I may have been slightly harsh yesterday:

I've played for 5-6 hours in total now and am around 15% through game completion according to the in-game stats. Things have definitely perked up a bit now that I've done more of the things I was looking forward to like flying, cycling and a heist. Getting used to the driving now as well and it suits the game-style much better than GTA IV's driving did. I'm finding a lot more to do now while roaming and also enjoying the story now it's started to get going.

I revise my previous score to 8.5/10 ;D Still coming across a lot of bugs mainly with the AI and probably one of my main criticisms is to do with the frame rate. When travelling quickly in a car the screen genuinely starts to look choppy and anti-aliasing is non-existent. It's not game breaking and it may just be because I'm used to my PC but it's the first time I've noticed while playing a game that the frame rate is pretty shoddy.

Great to hear Grimezy picking it up on friday i hope.

Was watching Angry Joe's initial impressions this morning, apparently there is a bit that is quite rough and you cannot skip thats causing a bit of discussion.

I wont say what it it, its not really a spoiler but people have different levels of ... ... em ... spoilulation :/

Overall though he LOVES it which is praise coming from him.

I wont post it as his language isn't family friendly but you cant look him up on youtube, he's mates with that Totalbiscuit dude.

Yea I have heard various things about 'sensitive' parts, mainly related to the redneck type character you can play I think. I haven't unlocked him yet though so there's only been a one or two 'mature' scenes and one of them was avoidable and the other wasn't involving humans.... I'll say no more.

Overall it is a great game, it's difficult to explain why though. It's just GTA really. I can't specifically tell you things that I did last night even though I played from like 6pm-11pm (with a couple of breaks of course). I remember bits and bobs but not many 'stand-out' moments that I can come into the office and rant about to my boss who also has it. There's just lots of little things that at the time are very entertaining, and I obviously enjoyed playing and already I want to go home and start playing again.. And I don't even know why... So it must be a great game.

Ashamed to admit I picked up an old 360 just to play this (and queued for 3 hours at the midnight launch). :D

It is a very good game which makes you laugh and is fun (which is the whole point right?!) but it isn't perfect, maybe a 9/9.5 out of 10 after about 12 hours gameplay.

For me, it started wrong (the flashback mission was fine) but after that it stagnated for a few of the first Franklin missions, that's how I felt. By contrast, Michael and Trevor's early missions were an absolute blast and so much fun to play. Franklin is a fun character but to me it almost felt like they gave him a few Los Santos-esqe gang missions just for the sake of it (and they were nothing special compared to the early gang missions in San Andreas which were great). He's not CJ, he's a better character than CJ but at first it felt like they were trying to draw similarities between them for nostalgia's sake or whatever. Michael and Trevor are awesome characters, especially Trevor, and I love how none of them necessarily conform to the stereotype you might first have about them.

There's a few bugs and some of the missions can be failed for stupid reasons (walking one step through the wrong door) but at least they can be easily restarted from a checkpoint. After all the hype about the map was expecting it to be bigger, especially the city, but it's more than big enough anyway.

Also the graphics are fugly, I know they're as good as it gets on a 7 year old console generation and considering the size and scale this is very impressive what they've done. But it could of been SO much more on next-gen and PC, and hopefully will be in future! It took me a few days to get used to all of the aliasing and 720p graphics again, but it's okay I guess. Basically PC gamers will find the graphics a bit poor and most console gamers will think they're incredible because they know no different. :D

Just my few pennies worth.
