Out of interest gents, which new GPU from both AMD & Nvidia fits in well with a 120hz UW 1440p monitor? I find the UW monitors harder to correlate. It's the Acer X34P.
@longbow122 sadly no. I’ve seen some people say they get a good 3 hours from the optimus though on everyday tasks. Sounds daft to say but I always find screen brightness is the biggest thing that affects battery. That’s all I have 😂
Try adjusting settings. By nature, gaming laptops run heavy on the juice. They have large power drawing parts that need more power than the battery can provide.
@Geordie300 you could always try an inverter? I’ve configured the next model available other than the Nova, with the 2070 in it. Worth a check on the forums to see how they fare

For that price point, it's a pretty good spec. You wouldn't likely be able to max out settings though. Personally, I'd opt for a RTX 2070 minimum. CPU and RAM look okay. Didn't realize Star Citizen needed 16gb RAM...
I have a Nova personally with a Ryzen 3700x and a RTX 2070, very good machine...
@SpyderTracks thanks mate, appreciate it. Out of interest, when the larger updates are released, what is the benefit of the clean install? I can only partially remember the details on it.
Hey,
I see that Windows 10, update 20H2 has been released. I remember seeing in some threads (that I can no longer find annoyingly) that when Windows release bigger updates, then it would be beneficial to carry out a fresh install. Am I making this up or is this a thing?
I remember it being...
@fevieira great news! Happy for you. Do you plan to manually reduce timings?
I have dabbled myself and got to 3200mhz with CL19. Anything tighter than that and it just does not play ball. I know with the same RAM, a Youtuber managed to achieve CL17.
Still, OC'd 3200mhz at CL19 yields better...
It turns out you were absolutely right. Problems seemingly addressed, up to full strength signal and connecting every time with no issues 😊 thanks @SpyderTracks I’m still getting the hang of all this so appreciate the help
Thanks @SpyderTracks. I’m travelling at the moment but when I get home I’ll certainly take a look. I believe it’s located near the m.2 slots isn’t it? I’ll update again with a photo when I can. Again, thanks for responding!
Hey,
Had my Nova now for around 2 month. Absolutely amazing machine. I have no grumbles with it, baring 1...
The wifi card seems to be dreadful. I've posted the spec below for reference.
Basically it only connects to a router (I travel a lot so we are talking maybe a dozen) intermittently...
@SuicidalChick3n brilliant mate. I use the fan control and rgb keyboard apps only. The fan control gives a much broader level of control. The Keyboard one is standard. I’ve found it so much better than CCC though. No interference and allows me full control over Ryzen Master and power profile. I...
@SuicidalChick3n probably totally unrelated but I was of the knowledge that with the RTX 2070, you needed the 230W power supply. I think PCS recommend that during initial config.
@demon28 I wish I knew that before I paid for Obsidian...Never mind haha Obsidian fan control I've found is very good though. More control in speed and more crucially for me, ramping up/down.
No you shouldn't if your setup is okay. I have this laptop and I've tinkered with settings, re-pasted and tried all kinds of different physical setups as at stock it will run very hot. I re-pasted with Kyronaut (small change) and setup the laptop on a stand which raises the back around 150mm so...
@mrlip Great advice mate. Really appreciate this. Just been chatting to @demon28 about this also. My RM profile also resets as soon as I start a game. I'm more than happy to get rid of CCC. How would you control the fans after that though?
