I'm looking to buy a custom built laptop first timer looking at Optimus pro amd 4800h rtx 2060 32gb ram 2x16 2666 I'm wondering if this will happily play star citizen or is there another alternative for the £1300 price mark
Try adjusting settings. By nature, gaming laptops run heavy on the juice. They have large power drawing parts that need more power than the battery can provide.Ah okay. Well, the Optimus I'm using will only last you 1-1.5 hours. Even when browsing the web etc. I had this on 45% and did basic web browsing with 3 chrome tabs open, ran dry in around 30 mins. And since battery life is something that seems important to you, I wouldn't recommend something like this. Thinking about sending mine back as well too, to be honest. I need at least a good few 3 - 3.5 hours on battery for web browsing (research) and working on word documents for school etc. Sent an email to PCS before I did anything I might regret again as it had reported around 4 hours of battery time and I'm not even getting half that when doing relatively lightweight work
TL;DR: If you want something that has a good battery life, which it looks like you do, not too sure the Optimus is a good choice for you. If you're able to keep it on a power supply 24/7 and you can put up with fairly loud fan noises when playing games (Played World of Tanks on minimum settings, fans went crazy), then this is a very good laptop.
