For 1080p 60fps I'd suggest going with a Ryzen build - probably one of the older 3000-series (3600x) processors for your budget - with a GTX 1660 Super GPU. Something like the below, which comes in at £880 (including VAT) - assuming that you will transfer Windows from your old PC so don't need a...
Hi all,
I've seen a lot of builds and forum posts recommending the X570 boards over B550 boards, including for "mid-range" builds (e.g. Ryzen 5600X, RTX 3060Ti - type gaming builds). I was wondering what the reasoning is for this? I understand that the X570 boards are better in several ways...
It depends on how much of a difference you think you'll notice - both are really fast drives compared to standard HDDs. I don't know the exact boot timings, but there's a law of diminishing returns here - if you take a 30s boot time from an HDD as a baseline, then if you half that moving to a...
Standard questions: What monitor will you be pairing this one (so the graphics card can be matched) and what's your budget? Can you also include the configurator link for your build? That aside, a few suggestions:
- Depending on how soon you want this, you would be able to get a lot more...
From personal experience, depending on what console you're coming from you won't need to spend much to spot the difference. I recently bought a desktop and play both PC and an original Xbox One (i.e. non-X), and the difference on my slightly older build (RTX 2060 super, Ryzen 3600XT) is really...
Looks like the 5600X comes with a Wraith Stealth cooler, which is the smallest of AMD's three stock coolers (for reference, the 3600X came with a Wraith Spire, which is the next step up). The built-in cooler is probably fine for gaming use as the AMD ones have generally been ok in the past - but...
Ah ok - I'd suggest you start configuring in here:
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/amd-am4-gen3-pc/
That should give you a much better set of options for an AMD base - much larger case selection with mid- and full-towers. If you're on a budget, the Corsair 275R is probably your best...
A few headline items:
- can you repost with the editable link?
- 1920x1080p you'd only need a GTX 1660 Super GPU.
- AMD processors are generally recommended - Intel are very much on the back foot for Desktop processors at the moment.
- NVidia are part way through releasing the rtx 30-series...
I'm pretty sure the Motherboard only supports dual channel RAM, so 2x16GB and 4x8GB should perform the same - the 2x16GB option is a bit cheaper and gives you more flexibility to add more later if needed (although I'd be surprised, 32GB should be fine for your use by the sounds of it).
Ahead of AgentCooper's questions, bit of feedback:
- The case you've selected has pretty poor airflow, if you're going for high end components you'd be better with something with better airflow (mesh fronted would be best) unless you're really set on the looks of the NZXT (it is a good looking...
Hi Vic,
I guess the argument around whether or not you should get a 3080 comes down to a bigger question on how you view market scarcity. You can either view it as "I want it and I'm going to try and get it even if I don't really need it, regardless of if that deprives others in greater need"...
Hi IceHog,
What's your budget for this? And is your plan to use the two monitors selected above as your monitors for the build - I'm guessing gaming on one, chat etc. on the other?
It sounds like you're mainly gaming with occasional casual recording (i.e. no professional streaming / video...
Not sure exactly what sort of engineering you're doing at Uni, but would like to highlight a few things (as someone who works at a structural engineering consultancy as a structural engineer):
- Most engineering software isn't that graphically intensive. Things like Revit and AutoCAD can get...
For Motherboards, the B550 series is a good choice at the budget-to-mid end - it has the latest AMD chipset, so will work with current and next generation (4000 series) Ryzen processors, and potentially with the next generation after that. The X570 ones are more expensive, but the added features...
If you're set on a Fractal Meshify, you can order them online for delivery to PCS for your build (I did this with my PC a couple weeks ago) - assuming you can find it elsewhere!
There's an announcement on 1st September, so we should know more then - current speculation is that the RTX 3090 (high end) will be released first (probably during September) with the RTX 3080 and 3070 following a month or two after - but this is largely guesswork for now.
In terms of cost...
Hi K9,
At the moment, AMD's Ryzen processors are generally considered to be better than their Intel equivalents, especially in quality:cost. The lower priced CPUs (3300X, 3600 series) are in short supply - however I think the 3700X (should be roughly similar on paper to the i9-9900K here) is...
Hi Christopher,
They're both fairly solid builds, couple of thoughts:
- I'd suggest swapping the Ryzen 3100 CPU for a 3300X in the second one, it's a big step up in terms of performance.
- Similarly the 3300X is probably enough - the 3600X performance increase over a 3300X isn't huge for most...
Having a play around with your original spec, if you're looking to make full use of the £600 budget, something like the below comes in at £595.
Changes:
- RAM speed increase to 2666MHz
- GPU upgrade to 1650 Super - should perform roughly 30% "better" for 1080p gaming than the standard GTX 1650...
Hi Nursemorph, thanks I'd heard good thinks about the Focus G (I think it was the recommended case in the example builds) but was put off by the aesthetics - is it possible to turn off the lighting on the front fans? Because of where it's going I want to avoid something that looks like Blackpool...
