Just ordered the most expensive laptop I never thought I'd need.

Thanks again Spyder, Do you think the Trump tariffs will affect my order?
Its not a US product, very few things are outside of some boutique record labels and a couple of car manufacturers like Ford, and food products that most of the world do their best to avoid

Im sure trump tariffs will affect global prices in some way eventually but I don’t think for one minute they’ll remain for very long, it’s already blindingly obvious the markets don’t agree with trumps “intelligence”

But I thought you ordered it already anyway? In which case you’ve already paid for it

The tariffs would affect SIs in the USA such as Eluktronics who use the same ODM chassis as PCS and XMG etc.

My order is being processed but I have been informed of the follwing.
2TB CRUCIAL T705 GEN 5 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 14,500MB/sR, 12,700MB/sW)
- Due to a stock discrepancy, the M.2 drive you have selected is out of stock and in supply constraint, so for the time being we do not have an ETA for more stock. In order to avoid further delays, we recommend that you amend to another drive. The closest alternative is 2TB SAMSUNG 9100 PRO M.2, PCIe 5.0 NVMe (up to 14,700MB/R, 13,400MB/W).

Before I change my order would anyone like to say if that's a good alternative or suggest something else?

I don't know if I really need 2TB and the 1TB T705 is in stock so i'm wondering if the T705 is so good if I should just go for the 1TB

I understand the T705 has a great deal more cache than the others drives?

Many thanks.

What was it in relation to? OS drive or Data drive?

Both, I was going to leave it unpartitioned and put both the OS and my programs/data on the same drive, Is that not the best way?
As I say I'm going to be video/image editing and creating with AI and will be doing some intensive lora training.
Open to suggestions regarding the best way to lay these out. Maybe a 1 tb drive for the OS and a separate for data?
Just a bit concerned about the heat having 2 drives.

No, that's not a good way at all, will lead to bottlenecks and data loss.

Best use is primary as say 1Tb fast drive, secondary won't benefit from fast speeds as much, say a Gen 3 drive.

So perhaps a 1Tb Samsung for the OS drive (but not a 990 Pro as they're poor quality), then a secondary 2Tb Corsair or P41

Thanks, what about a 1TB SAMSUNG 990 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe 4.0 & 5.0 NVMe (up to 7150MB/R, 6300MB/W) as primary and a 2TB CORSAIR CORE XT MP600 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (up to 5000 MB/R, 4400 MB/W) as secondary

The 990s are not great drives, best to avoid. The P44 Pro is a far better drive

Sound good?

Is the t705 1tb not great then?

Bugger, the P44 pro 2tb is out of stock, I was going to get a 1 tb t705 as primary and a P44 pro 2tb as secondary, what are my options now? bearing in mind it's for a laptop.

I think the consensus was:
  1. a 1TB fast gen 5 T705, or fast gen4 Solidigm P44 Pro as your primary (don’t know enough about the new Samsung 9100 Pro to recommend them over the others yet)
  2. a 2TB slower gen 4 Corsair Core XT MP600 or Solidigm P41 Plus as your secondary
Choice really depends on what’s in stock at the time…but you can always pick up a secondary SSD once you have the laptop if it’s the only part delaying the build.

Thanks, i went for the t705 as primary and the corsair 2tb as secondary. :)

Does this mean the 5090 graphics gpu has come in early?
Does what mean?

Again, I think you're misunderstanding, a laptop GPU is a part of the actual chassis, it's not a separate component. Doesn't matter when the chassis come in, the release date is the 30th, you can't change that, you're bound by the NDA agreeements.

I meant the fact that the order is being prepared, does this mean they have the 5090 chassis to work on albeit not able to release until after the 30th?
But you have answered this question. :)
