Vortex III Elite AUO screen.

Will it be in stock at all anytime soon? Its the only thing I'm missing from a perfect rig.

If not, does the screen use a left side connection? As I've found various places selling the screen itself, with a choice between V0, V4, V5, and V7, V4 (glossy) being the only one that is actually 95% gamut, which is what I would go for should PCS not have the matte in stock. I'm fine with replacing it myself, although I'd expect the screen to be void from warranty.

The Vortex III Elite is a 17.3" chassis and unfortunately a 95% gamut screen doesn't exist for 17.3" chassis - only 15.6". The screen you are looking for is the AUO B173HW01 V.5 (72% gamut). We have a very small quantity in stock and more due in on 2nd February. If you'd like to order one please call us on 0844 499 4000 and we'll amend your order. :)

That is fantastic news!

So if I've already ordered it would still be possible to change it? I'm just asking as I'd be ordering by finance for the next few pay days (damn christmas :(), and obviously the extra cost would need adding.

I'd be ringing first thing in the morning regardless :)

Edit: I've just noticed that the core i7 3630 is out of stock :( Would you happen to have an ETA for those as well?

Yes, you can add it on to your order as long as it hasn't passed through testing yet. 3630QM are on order and due in.

I have also been waiting for the AUO screen (although I have not seen it against the standard display to judge how much better it is - can any users comment on the difference and desirability of this component ?). Will it be added to the 17.3" Vortex's configuration screen on February 2nd ? I'd rather use that to create my order than have to ring. What is the exact modeli of the standard 17.3 matt screen supplied with this laptop ?

The screen models vary from batch to batch but they are usually LG or Chi-Mei. We still plan to add the AUO B173HW01 V.5 at the beginning of February. :)

Alternatively, you can order now and be at the front of the queue for when stock lands.

Glad to hear the AUO screens coming back in. Been waiting to send mine back in for RMA for the second time. :p

Would you agree that the AUOs are worth the extra money ? I have not seen any of these screens in reality - just someone's comparison video on YouTube. I had to view THAT with my Lenovo ThinkPad which has terrible viewing angles, is washed out and can't really distinguish reds from browns. What is SPECIAL about the AUO ? The spec' you have listed for your Vortex III looks similar to what I will be choosing. How reasonable is the sound via headphones ? I saw a review where a guy rejected his machine because he didn't think the output was good enough for audio and video editing.

I can only say from the point of an AUO owner that the quality is superb. The colours are very vibrant and its super sharp. I don't know sadly how much different from the regular matte screen this is though so not a great help.

I just rang them today and they have made a note on the order to wait for the AUO screens to come in stock before building. They'll have to ring me for payment but I am happy PCS are willing to go through the effort. A quality display is very important to me as I do a lot of design work.

i spoke to them this morning after reading that they were coming in on 2nd feb. I was told they are not in yet and dont know when either. I ordered a vortex 3 elite on friday and was thinking of getting the AUO screen instead. But after being told this ive just gone for the standard chi mei screen.......im not gonna wait what could be weeks. I want my laptop NOW !!!
Im pretty sure to the untrained eye there will be no real difference anyway. While im sure to others...they can see the difference.

I just hope im happy with the standard screen!!!

Hmmm....just got an email from PCS replying to my earlier email to them asking about the AUO screen........This email told me that the chassis that im getting(vortex 3 elite) has the AUO screen fitted as standard from the manafactuer.....Now im confused !!!

That is confusing. Maybe the "standard" matt screen has changed to an AUO product. The AUO choice has not been on the configurator screen for a few months. I think it used to be an extra £79 and believe it is for an "enhanced" display that can offer a 72% colour gamut. I don't know what the gamut would be if you did not request the upgrade.

It would be good to get an update on the new availability ETA.

Well I am confused.....very. Like you say the upgrade is not on the configurator . Well I guess I will find out tomorrow when it arrives. I will let you know what one I get.
