Video editing PC, how is this spec?

Just ordered a top spec PC mainly for video editing.

I am thinking of buying an external or internal NAS drive to store my family 4k videos and stream/watch these i.e firestick or other media players using Kodi etc.

My question is will this work? Will I be able to play these files effectively? I do have 1000meg internet.

My preference is buying an internal NAS drive , will this slow my PC down? or is external better? Any recommendations?

So firstly, drives don't slow down a PC, they have no relevance to the compute power only the write and read speed.

A WD Red or Seagate Ironwolf is generally rather good for media storage.

If you're doing external, you need to consider a NAS bay which can get rather pricey.

If internal, it's just a SATA drive.

Assuming there isnt going to be an issue with different file systems (see what the people in the know say) I would get teh new system up and running (so the standard check everythings connected properly, secure, set it all up, do all the updates and such) and then before plugging the old hard drive in, check your bios settings, make sure the boot options have the M2 SSD set as the primary.
(I think mine is set as USB first, then my samsung M2, then other ones... list of 5 I think, but BIOS will be different depending on the machine/motherboard)

What you dont want is for it to read the HDD first and then load any operating system on that to run on.

Having an external caddy is going to be easier/quicker though... you can literally plug the drive into the caddy so no faffing around turning the machine off and hooking the drive up, just a USB cable and treat it much like a USB drive

What would you say was a good brand for external docks? I had a look on amazon but theres LOADS of them Amazon search
One I have (borrow from other half) is pretty old so no idea on current stuff

There's no need to mention them as the OP states he's looking for an internal drive.

This drive was previously used for storage only, theres no OS on it.

A NAS drive is simply a SATA HDD. That's all.

Thanks for clearing that up I actually thought you could get internal NAS drives fitted into a PC that you can access via your network. I understand it now. I have learnt so much within a few days!

Not sure which format it is but I think it would be FAT32, its a 10 year old drive. I could always install it, transfer everything over to new and remove it. Proving it allows me to do that with the format complications.

In the configurator, the Seagate Ironwolf Pro is a NAS drive, so you can add it to your order.

My PC arrives today actually, super excited. I may look into a external NAS drive once all is set up.

External NAS is a whole different thing, if that's what you're looking for then do create another thread. Be aware, it's about £500 for the bay and around £1000 for the drives for something future proof.

They are just micro servers these days with powerful CPUs and about 8gb RAM at entry level, but you can set them up as dedicated media servers, or almost any kind of server you can think of.

They're very cool.

I think this is where ive got spun around and confused, I was in the original thread before you merged the other one in and he was asking about an existing drive he had and wanted to tranfer video files off, which is why I was saying about fat32 and ntfs and talking about docks.

Yes monitors all setup. I did pay £59 extra for this quick turnaround lol. I will post pics.

As I have started looking at NAS drives , looks like I will be spending yet more! , but I think it will complete my system! I just need to ensure the NAS is powerful enough to stream 4k content. If you have any recommendations on Amazon etc please let me know peeps.

Quick question regarding Adobe Premiere, I was told to set my software to use the second drive as a cache- does that purely mean I export the videos to this drive or is there anything I need to do in settings in Adobe Premiere? Ifso please how? I’m a Adobe Premiere learner.
