I'm far from an expert, but what kind of monitor do you have? Or are planning to get? That would also impact on the specs it makes sense to go with.

At a glance, I'd also suggest rethinking your graphics card, as Nvidia have announced their next graphics cards, and there are much better (and cheaper!) options than the 2080Ti available very soon.

That build is extremely unbalanced for a gaming PC. You don't need a Threadripper, it's a waste of your money. As above, what monitor are you using? Any other uses than gaming, such as streaming, editing, etc?

What you are doing is a pointless exercise.
There is absolutely no need, for a threadripper CPU in ANY gaming rig...even the most over-spec'd.
Buying a 2080Ti now is a fools errand given the 3080 is out any second now...even then, unless using a ultra/superwide 1440p/144Hz its entirely wasted (could make a very good case for the 3070 even then)

I'm sorry, but the build you have put has no direction to it, and is poorly matched even then. Added to that the sheer waste of it all... there is no such thing as "futureproofing" a gaming rig, tech constantly evolves, as do PC games... even if you threw every high spec component you could buy in there would be better within a few years max.

If you are looking for a gaming rig, that will run anything and still have more to give, then that can be put together for you, but key thing here is what monitor you will be pairing it to (as it would appear budget is not a factor).

This would make an exceptional core for the build, you then choose which GPU you want according to what monitor you will be running.
I would strongly suggest taking one of the new 3000 series GPUS and with your budget.
If you REALLY wanted to push the boat out, you could up the CPU to a 3900XT...but it would still be heavily underutilised for gaming.
I would also suggest buying 2 x 16GB 3600MHz RAM as PCS dont do this, and you have the budget. Pref C16.

This would guarantee that you can upgrade the CPU later down the line, plenty of headroom for GPU upgrades and a very fast main drive for the OS and games (M.2 2tb Firecuda). The barracuda HDD's are as fast as the ironwolf, and generally better lifespan and 6TB total storage is huge... I would also heavily recommend a full 2 years cover as that would mean you are under warranty all the way up to when you might start thinking about your first upgrade (GPU)

Add about 600 to 800 for very high spec GPU, and then another 1000 for a monitor that will actually pair with it properly, and you are looking at about a 3.5K to 4K budget...

@sibun1 is spot on there, that's a luxury build. The only other thing I'd do is add a second, smaller M.2 drive like the Samsung 970 500GB and use that for your OS and programs. That way, you can put the games on the 2TB Firecuda and if you have to do a clean install at any point you won't have to go through the long process of downloading all your games again.

With his budget...make it a 1Tb Firecuda to match the other M.2 on speeds.
But yeah, very useful.

i was thinking of buying a Alienware AW2720HF 27 Inch 240hz monitor And yes ill be 100% waiting for the new nvidia graphics card, should i get the GeForce RTX 3090 or GeForce RTX 3080 ?

i was thinking of getting the Alienware AW2720HF 27 Inch 240hz monitor and thank you for this info, this is exactly why i put it up here first! what cpu do you suggest? and ill be defo waiting for the 3080

@Wayv, please check this link to a recent guide that's been put up (after a long chat with some other forum members and mods), it'll guide you as to the right graphics card / monitor combination...

3000 Series GPU's, do you need a 3080????

We have had a lot of people coming on saying "don't worry, I have a suitable monitor" and picking a 3080 and then proclaiming when pressed that they in fact have a 1440p 144Hz monitor, or even worse, a 1080p 60Hz monitor as we've just had now! 1. These cards are going to be in very short supply...

So it's great that you came here for advice first before ordering. I'll let others guide you but I think forgetting about the 3080 would be a good move for a start, and instead looking at pairing a 3070 with a 1440p 144Hz ultrawide monitor could be the way to go, which will give you a much, much better experience than a 3080 that you're only ever utilizing half the power of.

That way the money you'd be saving on the 3080 could go towards a better monitor, offering a much better balanced system overall.
