The New Beast

Aw come on, it needs something a bit more snappy than that 😁
And "Jaws" is old hat now😜 (see what I did there?)

The Berserker was actually named that by @AgentCooper , maybe he can come up with another name
I hope he, or another member can, or at least give me something to work with.
The members in here are the ones responsible for giving me a (hopefully) fantastic build.
It's only right you should have a hand in giving it a name :)

Beserkers were Viking nutters, in comparison to yer ordinary average Vikings, who seem to have been nutters in their own right.
I've been thinking of other Vikings, but nothings catching my eye. Disney has been busy grabbing a lot of Super Hero/ X-Men names, so they're out. Greek and Roman Gods, or heroes? Vulcan, the blacksmith/volcano God, in honour of cpu chips that run hot, but that's also rather tempting fate, with cpu chips that run hot  🤔 I was in the Royal Corps of Signals for 12 years, our cap badge is the messenger of The Gods, Mercury, a liquid metal at room temp. Liquid metal, hot cpu's. Nah! Don't fancy that either 😂
It's not easy, coming up with a suitable name. It's only in 'processing', there's still some time before it gets here, I'll mull it over for a bit :)

It cannot be The Berserker obviously, cos @Martinr36 has already, quite rightly, claimed that.
The Beast, or The Thing are a bit Meh, too obvious. Trouble is, I don't have an 'original' bone in me.
I can see alternatives, once the original thought is planted, but I need the nudge to get me moving in the right direction.
So what do ya think? Anything that might suit?

So… no pressure then?

Ladies and mentalmen, I present to you the hellish abomination that will eat your soul…

President Evil has entered the pre-production stage.

Well I was thinking Truck=Rig and this PC would be your new rig.....
OK, I'll give you that, an A for effort :D But still, Nah! Sorry.
(Yes, I know A is for Alpha, or Apple, E for Echo, or Elephant though, not Effort) :)

Úlfheðnar (wolf-hide) if Beserker (bear-shirt) is already taken

(pronounced “oolv-HETH-nahr” with a hard “TH” as in “the;”)
Now there's a thought, I'll bear that one in mind :)
It also ties in with Days Gone in a way, and the game Days Gone is what prompted this buy.

It's good, but I'm not convinced yet :)

"The New Rig".
A nice tie in from Truck to Rig, but, nah, sorry :)

I like to keep it simple, you should name it Glen

Aye, but Glen means something like Valley. And there are hundreds of Whisky distilleries in Glens.
I have a small selection of the produce from some of these Glens. Glen Fiddach, Glen Morangie, Glen Deveron, to name a few.
It'd be strange to name a computer just 'Valley', but it might show excessive favouritism to name it after a particular Whisky. My preferred whiskys are the Island ones anyway, Highland Park, Jura :)

I'd bump the RAM up to the fastest also (6000Mhz)
Done!
I'm glad you noticed that. Thanks a lot for pointing it out :)
I wanted 6000MHz, but there was only 5600 available on the configurator when I ordered.
Upping from 5600 to 6000 is only a £10er as well 😮

That's also a good shout :)

Another suggestion with possibilities :)

This post is intended to keep all the naming ideas/suggestions, so far, together in one place.
To make it easier. No need to bounce around the thread to find them.

I received an email this morning, it seems they don't have the case I preferred in stock.
Not a major problem, I thought.
So I tried to amend my order to a different case. But, on clicking proceed, the configurator told me, they don't have the PSU I wanted either.
And then, on clicking through the various PSUs, I still couldn't proceed, due to shortage of stock.
I decided I've waited long enough, besides, I've got a brand new monitor and a new to me GPU sitting staring at me.
So I called the phone number.

My case will now be a Thermaltake Core X71, a monster of a case.
And the whole thing will be powered through a Corsair 850W RMe PSU.
So, what's the difference between RMx and RMe series PSUs?
The rest of the description is exactly the same.

RMe is the newer model, I'll be honest I really don't like most of the cases on the configurator at the minute. The budget options are still fine but the mid/high range like the Fractal Meshify, 5000X or 5000D not being available have really limited the choices.

The more expensive cases just straight up aren't worth the price most of the time and the budget cases don't have the features and build quality of the mid to high range cases it's pretty annoying actually

Personally I'd go with the 4000X or the TD500 over the X71 I just don't think it's worth the money

Just looked on the corsair site, and it looks as though the RMe has bearing fan, whereas the RMx has ML fan
And RMe doesn't have Japanese capacitors, which are supposed to be the best. So essentially it's a slightly cheaper model than the RMX.

Edit: Also has slightly less connections:

 D'Oh !
I should have done that myself
So I did, they both say "Rifle Bearing", which leaves me none the wiser to be honest :D

Ah, yes. I tried the 4000x, not in stock either.
And the TD500 is quite a bit narrower. I will be fitting an RTX 2070 Super, but that is to 'tide me over' until the new, mid range GPU's come on stream. Having seen YouTube reviews of the 4090, it's big, and the power socket is not well positioned, especially for narrow cases. I'd expect mid range GPU's to be a bit smaller, but, will the power socket be in a better position? I'm thinking about having to crank the power lead through a tight 90 degree bend, and the stress on the socket. Tighter the bend, greater the stress.
Also, the smaller PSU is cheaper, which releases more money for the case. But then the bigger case makes delivery more expensive
"Yea canny flamin' win", as we say up here 🙁
