That’s a different monitor, that’s the 279q which is a very top tier 1440p monitor. The other is a high end 4k monitor, very different beasts.

Gsync compatible is a term given to feeesync screens which have been tested by nvidia for compatibility with nvidia cards to a level that nvidia deem as good as if it were full GSync.

Any freesync monitor (which is AMD’s technology) will work with any GPU.

It’s only actual GSync screens that will only work with nvidia cards.

Hey Spyder, so I just saw this guide: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/3000-series-gpus-do-you-need-a-3080.72666/

Are you saying that the monitor I've chosen isn't right for a 3080? I believe the monitor overclocks to 170hz if that makes a difference but if its a 144hz card surely the important thing is having a 144hz monitor? Sure you could get a 4k monitor but how many games fully support that resolution?

I'm a bit confused about the guide as I thought that monitor would be a good fit but now I'm doubting myself, does your guide mean all 1440p 144hz monitors with a 3080 card as I'd hate to be "taking one away from someone who could actually use the card to it's potential". :(

In a handful of titles the 3080 will be around 140fps. But if you’re like most people who have quite an extensive library you find that most games will be bottlenecked by the screen as they’ll comfortably run above 144hz, a lot will be over 200fps.

For better use of the cards capabilities, a 1440p 240hz monitor would make more sense if you really want to stick to 1440p.

If you can, I'd recommend extending that guide out to recommend a few compatible monitor choices I thought my choice was good now it looks like I'm going to have to cancel that part and order elsewhere.

It's all outlined in the monitors threads, firstly is a slightly older one although more options:

Second one is quite new and more taylored to the new cards:

I don't want to come across as a "banging my fists on the desk, ranty, where is my computer" type person, because I'm quite happily waiting for my PC :)

But I think what is getting people a bit hot and bothered is not understanding where they are in queue and how fast it's moving.

Let me explain. The last time I queued for a cashpoint, there were only 2 people ahead of me in the queue. The first drew a handful of cash, and went on their way. Then the next person decided to make loads of transactions, get statements, and basically do a months worth of banking at the ATM when they could have gone inside the branch. Frustrating, but you could see the hold up and make your mind up whether it was worth the wait.

Similarly, when I went to the supermarket on a Saturday morning during lockdown (silly, but the cupboard was bare), there were hundreds in the queue, and I although I couldn't be precise about how long until I got in the store, I could see how fast the queue was moving and whether I was closer to the start of the queue than the end.

When your only updates are automated estimates which you've been told to ignore - it makes waiting in line patiently, more difficult.

Yeah I couldn't agree more. The lack of information we're getting is a bit of a joke in this day and age. My friend is waiting on a pc from cyber power solutions and he gets an actual update once a week including grouped basic positions as you mentioned and from that you can kinda get a picture of speed of stock. The way PCS are handling it seem to be just extremely old fashioned. Whether they're stuck on old mackintoshs and messenger pigeons I don't know.

Do a forum search on visible and invisible queues. I've talked about this at least twice in this thread alone.

Until someone orders from one of these other websites we'll never know. It's very easy to post good-looking information on the web but it's much more difficult to post reliable and accurate information.

Accurate is indeed near impossible, but i'd settle for indicative as opposed to nothing.

I'm only day 17 pre-production. Been in touch twice, first time I was told maybe November but will likely slip to December and the 2nd I was told December if I'm lucky but probably the new year.
Originally ordered with the Nvidia 3080 but switched to the Strix 3080.
Congrats to those who are getting theirs.

I would agree that PCS probably could do more in terms of articulating relative position in queue i.e. probably just knowing your 60 out of 100 gives a sense of scale, even if that alone is not enough to get any real idea of when you can expect to receive delivery of the card. However, that latter point does genuinely make knowing your relative queue position pretty redundant - if PCS have no notion of when they will receive cards and how many they will get, you are still not going to know when you will receive your order. I think exercising patience here is worth it if people are getting agitated by the waiting - it is an expensive purchase, it is exciting to get a new PC but it's definitely not worth getting angry and frustrated about

Imagine you find out you're hypothetically #1 in the queue for a 3080, but are told that PCS aren't getting their next 3080 deliveries for 3 weeks (for example). Would that be better or worse than not knowing at all where you are? I think that'd bug me more to be honest.

I think I would personally like that kind of information, while it doesn't give you any dates, it'd still be good to know that you'd be covered by the next batch they get.

The information I'd actually want is “100% sure that it won't be delivered sooner than yyyy-mm-dd", so I would know to not get my hopes up and it'd give some peace of mind, but I realise they aren't able to provide such information so I'm not complaining.

To those who are waiting and ordered before some people who have their orders, I would advise checking with PCS if any of your parts are out of stock. Until I changed my case after finding out it was out of stock, my order was waiting for a case that was not coming back in anytime soon. Hence people after me getting their rig built. I am now on testing less than 24 hours after changing my case.

I’ve been waiting on Pre Production for 28 working days, I ordered my build on the 18th of September. Just wondering if anyone ordered around the same time I did is having theirs built/ already got theirs? Just trying to get a general idea of where I might be in the queue.

There are still a number of people without builds from the 17th (including myself) so once those people start to post it might help give you an idea

Ordered first thing on the 17th (14:01) and got built yesterday. Delay was my case was out of stock so I changed it.
