And PC Specialists response is: .......

Nothing what so ever. Sigh.

In lieu of any actual comment or update from a pc specialist employee on this matter, here's a quote from their site.

So what do we offer?????? With every computer purchased from us you will get low-cost telephone technical support, customer service second to none, and most of all, a new computer/laptop that you will want to show off to your friends and relatives. We offer a more personal service - please read our testimonials and then decide for yourself.

Do remember that emails generally get responded to with 2 working days (and its been one working day since you emailed them so far) but after a long weekend it can take longer, the best way to get a fast response it to phone them.

Note: I'm not saying its good that they haven't responded, but emails do normally take longer than one working day for a response, and I suspect they've recently had an awful lot of emails about Skylake builds recently

That they don't reply within 1 working day? Majority of companies take 1-2 business days to reply. If you want the best support you should really phone them.

This is beyond a joke now and I urge anybody to seriously consider my experience before purchasing. I assumed that a 10 day waiting "average" was reasonable, and yet here I am 14 working days in; 22 days in total and I am still in the "pre-production" phase. How is that even possible? what have they been doing considering how they wasted no time at all taking my money out of my account.... I see i'm not the only one!

That's the way not only PCS but other retailers operate when building a customise system. To get an update of your order you could try giving them a call.

Sorry I should of mentioned that I phoned them last Friday. I was told that there were no problems with the order and that the delay was due to a high volume of orders but I was assured my order would be in building yesterday. No surprises here but it isn't and I'm now 10 working days into "pre-production"... I guess I need to ring them again.

Sometimes the website is delayed, when I ordered my PC it went from pre-production straight to testing within an hour of refreshing the page.

Please bear in mind that you did sign a contract that did say it can take up to 30 days. And also bear in mind that you are not the only customer PCS has and that everyone else also has to wait

And here we are again with people complaining at having to wait whilst their PC/laptop is built. The ability to wait patiently seems to have been forgotten in this age of instant gratification. I don't work for PCS but I can well understand that with a high volume of orders, and with what seems to be a supply chain problem, some customers will have to wait longer than usual. That's real life. Have any of you ever bought and sold a house? Then you'll find out what waiting really is.....!

I can well imagine that PCS are pulling out all of the stops they can to get your PCs built as quickly and as reliably as possible, but they're not magicians and they can't work any faster than the capacity of the workforce they have, they have no control at all over supply chain issues. What do you expect them to do for you? I'm sure you'd rather have the staff building your PCs than wasting time working out how long it might take so you can have a realistic estimate of delivery. It takes as long as it takes for goodness sake.

And before you ask why PCS don't employ more people Google the Pareto Principle. The most economic workforce is one that can handle 80% of the peak load, that means at high load times the waiting time is longer. If PCS were to employ enough people to meet the very busiest times their costs would rise dramatically and the price of our PCs would rise too.

Waiting patiently whilst appreciating that the people serving you are doing their best and working as hard as they can is a very useful life skill. I suggest some of you learn it.

Best comment on this thread so far. Threatening to cancel your order, mentioning that you can save time building it yourself won't help getting it quicker. It is a customised system and when ordering you have accepted the t&c from PCS.

Very true but, when you order and it says approx 7-9 days build one would expect that to happen! Maybe that does happen on occasions but customers do tend to reply on that info rather than the TLCs

That's why it says approx. it does not guarantee it will be deliver in 9 working days. It might not be ideal and if you need the system ASAP you have the option of fast track

I ordered my fourth pc from them earlier this summer. Had no issues with PCS, was built and delivered as estimated. 100% satisfied with the service they provide and will DEFINATELY order from PCS in the future.

People are just so entitled nowadays. Want everything done yesterday. I mean what do you expect for a custom built system? if you want speed then go for one of their pre-built options.

So Fast track means you have to pay more so that the same guy who was going to build your pc anyway leaves building other PC's that he was in the middle of so that he can get yours out first?

My understanding is fast track is a separate build line essentially meaning you skip out the 'queue' to get to the normal one. Obviously this doesn't mean that you'll get an out of stock component any quicker (and PCS don't usually let you choose fast track if this is the case).

What a ridiculous comment, it takes as long as it takes.. What kind of a comment is that? The bottom line of the matter is that they are providing a service and they shouldn't have any approximations of delivery dates if they cannot meet them or provide any kind of accurate updates as to why.

The average purchaser would expect an approximation to be accurate; at present I am already 140% over this and still in their second stage. It took 30 minutes of holding on a phone call and 3 ignored emails to be told there is no issues and that the build would be dealt with yesterday which it still isn't today. I'm not looking for instant gratification just a decent level of customer service, as currently the system they have is appalling. I'm more than happy to wait patiently but I do not however appreciate being placed in the dark over a purchase that has cost such a significant amount of money. Perhaps you need to understand that having a decent level of customer service and expecting a company to come close to their own claims on deliverables isn't a luxury its a requirement.

As far as I know the approximate dates quoted are estimates based on the previous few weeks/months deliveries. It could be that the estimated delivery times are out at the moment due to an increase in order numbers recently due to the recent release of the skylark processors (for example) or perhaps 'back to school/uni' type stuff? It could also just be that most orders are going out in or around the estimated time but some orders (perhaps a relatively small number compared to the entire backlog) are being held up for some reason. They are only estimates.

Obviously this doesn't excuse any lack of transparency regarding the wait or anyone's order in particular.

The sad truth is though it will take as long as it takes... up to 30 days.

http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/terms said:
5.2 Your order will be fulfilled as soon as possible after your Order Confirmation and in any event within 30 days of the date of the Order Confirmation, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

I appreciate 'quoting Ts&Cs' isn't exactly helpful, but its worth noting there is a maximum wait time.

But for every person that posts that it has taken way over the estimated time, there are potentially hundreds that are either around or within that time. Somebody has to make the average work, and it is always a pain when it is you, but that doesn't mean anyone is doing anything wrong.

Having your order take longer than average is just like if you get your computer and it has a problem, either immediately or somewhere down the road. It isn't the norm, but it will happen to somebody due to the nature of technology.

And just a note to prospective PCS customers reading threads like these. Although there are some review posts on here saying their machine is wonderful, very few people ever bother reporting that they are pleased with their purchase (of anything), so don't be dissuaded by posts about problems seeming as if they are in the majority.

Do so love these cheery happy-go-lucky threads :)
