I'd have used a straw and percolator filter to recover most of that!I think these corners of the world are typically more affluent. We have more money to waste than we have previously. The breadline still exists, of course, but it's just a completely different world with waste.
I remember not so long ago we used to get TVs and Vacuum cleaners fixed in repair shops. Very rare do you hear of this now, we just throw everything away and buy new. Didn't have that kind of disposable income back then. In fact, I remember my Papa saying that he saved for his New Year bottle of Whisky (1/2 bottle). One time he dropped it and it smashed, and that was him till next year. He had to rely on the kindness of friends and family to share theirs, that they had equally saved for.
Ahh changed days. Not sure if it's always for the better either.
