As long as the supply chain and delivery times are smooth thats all I can ask for. Previous build during covid had me waiting 6 months for a 3080 rig 😂

It won’t be as bad as that I don’t think, hopefully with all nvidias AI prowess they’ve worked out a mechanism to stop bots better than previous launches

What's deeply concerning is that there are far too many out there that will pony up that cash, which just makes nvidia keep raising their prices, and AMD spinelessly following suit.

The pandemic unfortunately showed the corporate world exactly the kind of sheep the community can be when push comes to shove.

This is an excellent video, and it's absolutely clear that initially the 5080 was due to have 24Gb VRAM. That's the only way it makes sense, from the retail boxes some retailers received showing 24Gb, plus the 5090 being the only card with the VRAM bump.

NVidia just got uber greedy, even moreso than their behaviour over the pandemic.

It's criminal, I wish there were more protections in place for consumers against these practices

How much influence should VRAM have on GPU choice, given what we’ve seen with games recently like Indiana Jones and Black Myth Wukong?

I had my heart set (for lack of a better phrase) on a 5090 FE yesterday but, alas, I did not get one.

I’d not really considered going for a 5080 due to it ‘only’ having 16GB VRAM. Had it have had 24GB it would have been a no brainer between the two.

Is the extra outlay on the 5090 worth it?

Absolutely not worth it but I was willing to pull the trigger on one yesterday too if I had got the opportunity. It's wild how the fever gets you!!

If you have a good system that meets your systems I would suggest holding out for a Ti version of the 5080, you know it's coming. The only issue is it's likely a year or so away.

I took the lack of availability for me as a sign. I'm not going out my way now so if an opportunity lands on my lap I might go for it, otherwise I'm not bothered. I'm fortunate that I have the 4080FE anyway, so the 5080 has no appeal to me whatsoever. I can't say the same will apply with the Ti/Super or the next 6080 though.
