Hi guys, my pc is still waiting to be built, im thinknig of amending the order, is it worth upgrading to the 5950x from the 5900x? i can drop the 2tb barracuda ssd since i have 2 m.2's on my order anyway and im pretty sure that 2tb will be ample for now (i also have a nas drive anyway for backups/storage of 3tb raided).

Here is the current spec, id only have to pay £30 more if i change the cpu.

The system you link is actually microscopically different: it has Windows 10 Professional included. You probably don't need this, unless there's a specific feature you want to get?

You could definitely upgrade to the 5950X. Its gaming performance is a touch worse than the 5900X, but it's marginal and I imagine its performance in other tasks will make up for that shortfall for your uses. While the Strix X570 will be enough, you could also consider the Crosshair, the ne plus ultra of PCS's motherboard selection. If you get the WiFi version, you could then drop the separate WiFi card.

All this would make your build look like this:

The pc is used for work so yes i want the pro security features for that reason. IT department will be happier i think lol. i was just looking online for comparisons and some benchmarks were showing that 5950 was better for rendering and such and potentially unreal engine which i want to start learning. Yes il be using the rig to play games but will i notice a difference? im upgrading from a laptop with the 2070 max q. If i drop the wifi card, does the wifi board include bluetooth? coz the card has bluetooth which is handy but I suppose it is not essential. However if i do upgrade to that motherboard it will be even more money, what are the key advantages of going with the crosshair hero wifi? i wont be overclocking (pretty sure that invalidates warranty anyway)

Yes, the 5950X will definitely benefit you overall, and the minimal difference in performance in games almost certainly won't be perceptible. I just thought I should let you know anyway!

Yes, the Crosshair VIII WiFi does include Bluetooth -- it's the exact same chip as in the separate card, just integrated into the motherboard. (Though I personally don't know why anyone would actually want to use Bluetooth on a desktop machine: it's such a flaky standard.) Honestly, it's not necessary for your case: the power and cooling is very similar (even if the Crosshair is a bit better for power delivery). It's more that the 5950X is a pretty amazing and demanding chip, and it's worth considering a best-in-class motherboard option to accompany it and make sure you get the very most out of it.

I doubt there would be a discernible difference to the Strix, but it's the hardest part to replace if there was a problem, which is why I mention it as an option to consider.
