new pc build help

Hi all. I'm looking to upgrade to a desktop from my laptop since my Razerblade pro battery bloated and im finding that using a laptop as a main pc all day isnt ideal (or at least ....razer ones arent lol). I could get it repaired and maybe i will but have to send it all the way to Germany to razer and might take forever. They dotn send replacement batteries and if i order an aftermarket one myself from china it will take months.
Anyway, I figured it was time to return to the desktop world for something more powerful that is quite happy being on all day. I work as a 3d modeller and love to game and stream aswell. For this i want something that is going to be powerful for rendering, should something happen where i have to freelance and do that myself. A good GPU is a must and my budget will accommodate this. The reason i havnt opted for a quadro is because it might be out of my budget and i also want to game so a 3090 is what im considering.

I realise that the 3080TI might be on the horizon soon but until i know its pricing and performance i am unsure if i should switch to that to save money. I see that 3080 seems to be a long wait aswell. I definitely want this pc to last but also leave room for upgrading in the future if needed , but hopefully if i go 3090 that wont be needed for a long time. Here is my spec of choice if anyone can take a look. I'm a little unsure about the case choice, i want something with good airflow to keep the gpu and cpu running smooth but reasonably quiet for when i stream, the other option i considered was the coolermaster h500 but i prefer the look of the corsair (would love it if they ever stocked the white one).

Hello and welcome! It’s a beast of a build you’ve got there and will serve you well.

Just a couple of minor suggestions from me. Up the primary 500GB M.2 drive to the Samsung 980, it’s the fastest drive available and worth the extra pennies. The H115i Capellix cooler would also be a good choice, the larger radiator will be good for temperatures. You can drop the extra thermal paste as the cooler comes with high quality paste already applied. The AX200 WiFi card is worth the extra tenner or so, it’s dual band so will be faster and has built in Bluetooth connectivity. And we’d all advise getting rid of the BullGuard AV trial, it tends to cause more problems than it solves.

Hope that helps, feel free to come back to us with any further questions 🙂👍

This looks like a beast of a build!
Looks like you have a very healthy budget, please could you confirm an amount for us to work to?
How intensive is your modelling and rendering? Wondering whether you would benefit from 64GB of RAM.
Please could you include your config link as it'll make it easier for me to whack in a few adjustments. Info how is linked below.

You can buy the white 5000D from elsewhere (eg Amazon) and send it in for PCS to build in. I agree that, with the RGB fans, it's about the best looking case there is going right now. I'd definitely be doing that in your shoes.

Looks like a great machine, though, especially with @AgentCooper's suggestions.

Oh wow thanks for the quick replies guys. Yeah so i cant seem to modify the order coz its not expecting 3090 to be available til at least 10th of June, i have no problem waiting ofc but anyway here is the unique link i think thats what you wanted?

I can budget 4-4.5k if needed but i realise the bulk of what im paying for is that 3090 graphics card, you think a 3080ti if its going to be coming in a couple of weeks also viable?
Also what on earth is the 'protect your purchase' thing? i would have thought that the courier would be insured as standard? And is the warranty worth purchasing? i chose the platinum just in case.

In terms of 3d work, right now i dont do anything taxing since i can send to a render farm and its stylised work for animation that is normally rendered in Vray. I figured the fastest ram was the best for future proof? or does it not matter? I assumed i could buy my own extra 32gb (2x16) and slot it in since the motherboard has 4 slots? There isnt an option for 64gb 3600mhz, only 32.

Lastly i wasnt sure about sending in my own case. Does that mean i just ask PCspecialist for the address and get it delivered direct from amazon? I'm not fussed if i get the black case tbh , everything else on my desk is black lol but that white version is damn tasty looking, but i guess in reality, the only person who'll see the case is me lol.

I think you attach your order number and name to the amazon delivery if I remember correctly and have amazon ship it to them :)
Edit = exact info
Yes, you can choose to do this under “1) SELECT A CASE”.

Please note that your case needs to be smaller than 600mm x 300mm x 630mm and weigh less than 24kg.

Please send the case directly to us and write your order number as the first line of address. It is your responsibility to ensure that your spec will fit into your case.

Which operating systems do you offer?

The only operating systems we offer and support are Windows 10 Home and Professional. You can purchase a computer without an operating system and install your own, however we would not be able to offer support if you encountered software issues.

The extra VRAM of the 3090 would be beneficial in your line of work if you take on more heavy rendering tasks, it’s a card that’s much more angled towards productivity.

As for the RAM, it sounds like 32GB should suit you for now, with the option to add another two sticks at a later date. There have been continued reports of system instability when people run 4x16GB 3600MHz so to play it safe, I’d suggest going for 2x16GB 3200MHz at this stage. That way, adding another two matched sticks later on means you’re unlikely to run into the issues that have been plaguing others. You also shouldn’t lose much, if anything by dropping to a slightly lower frequency, 3200MHz is still hella good 👍

We always recommend the silver warranty as a minimum, reason being is that if things are likely to go wrong with a brand new PC, it tends to happen in the first year. The gold warranty would be an extra safety net, and the platinum is only if you really do want the added peace of mind. I went silver 🙂

oh wow thanks for the tip on the ram, i didnt realise that at all. TBH i suppose it doesnt matter right as long as the motherboard can take up to a certain type i can change in future?. I have 2666 in my laptop and it does the job. I guess i could go gold, save a few pennies on the warranty.

I think platinum warranty might be a little overkill, gold should see you right. You can of course switch out RAM in the future, 3200MHz is regarded as a sweet spot for gaming and the majority of tasks at this stage. The motherboard supports up to 4266MHz (I think, someone please correct me if I’m wrong) so there’s room for change over time 👍

so to modify my order i had to choose the normal 3090 without a brand, i am assuming this means its a lottery and you dont know what card you will get? anyway it recommended downgrading teh power supply so i chose 850w, what difference does that make? here's the new quote

There will be very little difference between the 3090s. To my mind it's not worth staying with the Strix for the price. I would, however, go for the 1000W PSU, because it will be quieter at a given load, and the 3090 does do big power spikes...

Finally, I'd go with the LL120 fans, not the Toughfan ones, because the case looks so good with them in. But that's very subjective on my part.

A few people on here who have opted for the 5000D have swapped in 3 LL120 fans. This isn't possible on the configurator as there are only 2 fan slots available, but it is very easy to do via live chat after you have ordered.

Thanks i didnt realise that i could use live chat, what is the real difference between the fans tho? i'll go back to the 1000w power supply then. In terms of making the order, when do they charge you? when they start the build? or when they ship? just wondering now how long it'll be til we see more 3090s in stock.

The difference is at least 90% aesthetic -- they're just really pretty! There might be a difference in noise level, but it won't be enormous.

You are charged when you order.

Hi guys so the corsair case i was looking at is no longer in stock, i am considering ordering the white one from amazon so does anyone know when that should be sent to PCspecialist? if ordered from amazon should i just get it delivered by them and put my name on it but C/O pcspecialist? i am assuming that they will contact me if opting for the 3 rgb fans is a no go but like you said earlier i could do that no problem via live chat. Otherwise would you have other recommended cases i could consider?

Is that the 5000D Airflow you've ordered? If so, it's probably worth messaging them on live chat and asking for a note to be added to put the fans in the front of the case, replacing the one that's already there. Your other option is to order the 5000X, which comes with three fans included already, so you could drop them from the order (it has a glass front panel, which is gorgeous, but somewhat worse for airflow than the 5000D Airflow is).

Either way, the process for sending in a case is the first item in the FAQ page, under the title "how can I send in my own case?".

It looks an outrageously good build -- I'm turning slightly green with envy...

If you proceed with 'send in your own case' selected it will outline the steps you need to take to have a case delivered to PCS. It's a fairly straightforward procedure.
I would get in touch with live chat rather than waiting to see if they get in touch. That's just my paranoia talking; when you've invested 4k into a build I would want everything to be 100% confirmed.
As said above, this is an outrageously good build :D

Yes, you can choose to do this under “1) SELECT A CASE”.

Not ordered yet from amazon, the x version is tempered glass though and i would have thought having a mesh front is better for airflow? i cant imagine having glass covering yoru fans at the front is a good thing....
The x variant is also alot more expensive so the question is , is it really worth it and the only reason it is is because of the tempered glass front and preinstalled fans?
