I’m hoping someone who understands computers could tell me if this pc build will future proof me for upcoming games and if it’ll run all games available right now. Also if it is worth the price.

Is this purely for gaming? No streaming, editing, etc?
What monitor are you pairing this with?
The big question is how urgently do you want it? Next gen GPUs are only a few weeks away, with next gen CPUs coming later in the year. If this is a PC that you WANT, and not one that you NEED, I would recommend holding off for a few months and getting the newer hardware, especially when you’re playing with such a healthy budget.

Hi Wilson,
I can afford to wait I plan on using it mainly for gaming so it being able to run a variety of big games is important. I planned on getting any gaming curved 4K monitor I could find for a reasonable price. I’ll wait for the new hardware to come out I will just have to come back to this forum as I won’t know how to properly match all the parts together. If you had the time could you maybe send me a link to a build you know works for pure gaming?

Wouldn't recommend a next day build, they tend to be a little light in the cooling and PSU department for my liking.

As an example, here's a custom build that's less than £100 more and would knock spots off it. It's not necessarily precisely what I'd recommend, at least without knowing your requirements and, to be honest, waiting for the 4080 and the AMD cards next month, but it's pretty indicative. Hey, I really just want a pc that can run games on high settings for upcoming games and the ones already out as it’s only purpose will be this. I will eventually buy a VR headset for gaming too. It looking nice would be a plus and water cooling on the inside. I plan on getting a keyboard and mouse off Amazon and a monitor I would also require. I don’t know if it’s worth it at the start to get 2 or to start with one and get another once at a later date.

My budget for the pc is 3000 Euro. I can spare a little more but would like to stay close to this. The monitor doesn’t need to be included in the Pcs budget.
Ive heard from people that Amd is a better CPU for gaming and to get nothing below a 3080 graphics card or else I’d be wasting my money.

Anytime I try and build my own pc I end up having it go up to 5k by just me picking every option not knowing if it’s needed.

If you have any builds you could share it would be great!

You match the GPU to the monitor, in your case you mention VR so the 3080 would be a good choice.

As for the CPU selection the new 13th gen Intel chips seem to be the better option for gaming based on performance, price and compatibility. AMD have gone crazy with their pricing at the minute and the cost of the platform alone is incredible

@sck451 build above would tick pretty much all your boxes, you could probably go for the 13700K as a better option on the CPU but the 13600K is an absolute monster for gaming purposes

A bunch of things here I wouldn't recommend.

First, that case. It's a decent-ish cheap case. You want better for this kind of system: you want the airflow and the cooling and the quietness that come with a good-quality case. My suggestion was the Lian Li, but only because PCS don't have much good stuff in stock right now. I'd suggest doing "send in my own case" and choosing something like the Corsair 5000X or the Fractal Meshify 2, both of which are available in white if you want that.

You've gone for the 13700K: as @Steveyg said, this is certainly reasonable. It's unnecessary for gaming (you probably won't have a performance difference in gaming), but as long as you don't mind the few quid extra, it's a reasonable choice!

You've gone for the 1TB 980 boot drive. This is reasonable, but in my book unnecessary. This drive should contain your OS, key applications, and not much else. Games, etc., should go on the second drive. To me it would make more sense to have a 500GB+2TB configuration rather than a twin 1TB set. But storage is a very personal thing.

You've downgraded the power supply. This is a bad call: if anything, I'd up it to 1000W. It's not strictly speaking necessary, but it's good to have plenty of overhead for longevity, efficiency, quietness and upgradability. I wouldn't have the 3080 with anything less than an 850W PSU.

You've added the thermal paste: this is unnecessary as the Corsair cooler comes with excellent pre-applied thermal paste.

You've added the RGB strip: I'd suggest the ARGB strip instead so you have more flexibility in controlling it.

You've added Norton in: I'd suggest leaving it out and using Windows Defender instead. It's free, and less of a resource hog, and just as good at protecting your computer.

You've added a 1080p display. It's not a good choice, especially at that screen size. I'd suggest getting a monitor from elsewhere. I or others can recommend some if you need some help: I'd definitely want something 1440p or better.

You've also added the keyboard: I've no idea about that one, but I would suggest looking elsewhere as well as PCS's offerings are not always great value.

Thanks very helpful I’ll make the changes now and get back to you! I had the battery higher but as I hit proceed it told me I didn’t need that much and that 750 would do so I changed it.

Guide on sending in your own case above.
Build looks solid besides that, only thing I would change is having a second 1-2tb m.2 drive for your games. You will load much faster on an SSD compared to a HDD, and this will get even faster as Direct Storage becomes better implemented over the next couple of years. Also as a word of warning, the Ironwolf HDDs are designed for server use, one of their drawbacks is that they are quite noisy.

Harvey Norman are notorious for having terrible customer service mate, they'll take things back for "repair" and you'll never see it again but they'll give you the run round for seemingly ever and fight tooth and nail to not pay you a penny for refunds. Would strongly recommend avoiding them from my own experience

You want he 980 Pro as your smaller boot drive mate, the faster drive should be your OS drive then you can get the 970 as your secondary. I'd honestly probably just get one of the cheaper PCS M.2's instead though the speed difference is minimal I guess it depends on the price

But 980 Pro as the boot drive would be the best choice

Good picks otherwise though
