Well, the update: cancelled the Vive at about 2:15, ordered the Rift not long after (though had to take to my credit card companies fraud team first - hehe) and now I have the DPD link and it'll be delivered tomorrow :) (and no I've still no idea when the Vive would've eventually shown up)

Nope, only tried the Vive so far.

Be interesting to hear your comparison. The Vive is amazing.

I'm curious about the price drop. I'm wondering if the next gen of options are coming sooner rather than later.

It seems the price drop is only for 6 weeks rather than permanent. I also ordered mine and should get it by Thursday.

Yeah, I got mine the day after I ordered it (ie. I got it last Wednesday).
Thoughts: it's cool :)
Other thoughts:
The Vives lighthouse technology is better than the Rifts sensor tech - I'll probably need to buy an extra sensor to replicate the Vives lighthouses, and the Rifts sensors are USB cabled so I've had to get some USB extension cords whereas the Vives lighthouses only need a power supply
The Oculus Touch controllers are much easier/nicer than the Vives controllers (especially for those of us with slightly smaller hands)
For the Vive I'd have to buy the Deluxe headset for it to be as comfy as the Rift, the Rift headset does feel comfy - though it was obviously designed so people with big noses could wear it, for myself if I look down my nose I can see the floor (and whatever I've just stood on - so this can actually be quite handy), this doesn't spoil the immersion for me as I don't notice it if I'm not specifically looking down at my nose - some have just filled the gap with a small bit of black material.

So, I reckon the Vive is better, but with the current deal (presuming its still £400) it means the Rift is about half the price of the Vive (when you take into account the deluxe headset is 100quid) which is a big deal.

I read a report that after this offer they're upping the rift price only to $499 dollars. Rumours are (which I think have been confirmed) that they're readying the release of a second rift at around £200, how that will fare against the current gen is anyone's guess.

The £200 device is supposed to be wireless and closer to something like a GearVR than a Vive/Rift. It will supposedly have its own hardware and won't be tethered to a PC.

Makes sense at that cost.. be interesting though. I'm looking forward to the hololens headsets which must be due fairly shortly (September with the fall update?).
