have just fitted my dvd(plextor) drive from my old pc into my new system.
my new motherboard has 4x6gbs sata and 4x3gbs.
i noticed the dvd drive that came fitted was connected into a 3gbs connector, so i assumed my plextor drive would again need to be connected to a 3gbs connector.
trouble with that was the other 3x3gbs connectors were taken. 1 by the case's front sata port, and the other 2 by the case's hdd "hot bays".
could there be a reason why the two hdd "hot" bays were plugged into the 3gbs ports as opposed to the 6gbs ports?
i took a chance and moved the "hot" bay connectors to a 6gbs port, and plugged the plextor into the 3gbs port, vacated by them.
everything is working ok, just want to know if i have done the right thing?
also i noticed that there are differences in the data cables.
ie basic thin red ones, and some more substantial black ones with better connectors!
the more substantial ones have "6gbs" stamped on them. does this mean the thin red ones are not compatible with 6gbs?
thanks
