Monitor not getting signal

Hi, so I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the most confident about fiddling with PCs thus why I ordered one from PC Specialist, it arrived on Monday and my monitor isn't getting any signal. The monitor isn't an old one, maybe 2 years old at most and it works fine but it's not getting the signal from my new PC. I've tried it in the graphics card (the first place I tried), I tried it in the motherboard, I swapped HDMI cables, tried it with my TV and nothing. My friend who is more PC savvy than I am came up yesterday to help but even he couldn't get it working and he doesn't want to remove the graphics card in case PC specialist try to say it was our fault for messing with it (having never used them before I had no idea on their policy here) but I sent them an email on Monday and have heard nothing back, is there anyone who might be able to help? I've got stuff that kind of requires a PC and my laptop just won't cut it as its only really useful for running movies at this point

But would removing the GPU fix the problem? That's the thing is we can't get the monitor to pick up the signal when the monitor is perfectly fine and working. It's a matter of what else could we do to try and fix it, has something got loose when they packed it or in transport. All the fans spin and we get the one beep when it turns on but just nothing

The next thing to try is reseating the GPU, it may have come loose in transit.

can’t say if that will fix it but it’s the next step to take.

mate you using a straight hdmi to hdmi cable or a converter?

Using a straight HDMI to HDMI cable.

I'll have to get my friend to come over again then since he's more confident with taking pc's apart and such, he added parts to my old PC so I trust him more than I trust myself with this but I suppose it's something to try while waiting to get a reply from the PCS techs

That might not have been wise. From the Terms & Conditions....

7.9 We reserve the right to suspend the warranty or refuse service if your Case, Motherboard, CPU or BIOS have been replaced without authorisation.
Any tampering, repair or modification by unauthorised personnel voids the warranty.

Anyone not the owner or authorised by PCS. That's pretty obvious I'd have thought.
Because it is an official document, it needs to be stated.

Also, even if they stated the above, their needs to be a supporting Disability type clause.

For example my mate has a few fingers missing and a hand, me and a few others help out with his PC upgrades etc.

(I used to write this stuff and legally can be fun).

In this case, there is nothing stopping the owner authorising his mate.

They would be unauthorised unless it had been agreed with by PCS first.

It clearly states it all in the terms and conditions.

Who would be unauthorised.

Under meanings of words, you should ideally list and detail, Authorised, Competent etc.

Admittedly if an owner is authorised, you just don’t say anything on who did it, for example if your son changed it for parent who is the owner but techno biff.

What size pin, and do you meant the flat head or the pointy end, and which is the top in a chocolate digestive, and (an easy one) what came first, the chicken or the egg?

How did this turn into a chicken or the egg debate?

But anyway

If you look at the T&C above that it mentions another person installing components but that's fine, I won't ask him to check the other graphics card in it or if it has to be authorised personnel then he could maybe talk me through what needs to be done, idk

I will admit, I worded it wrong in my post, he's not going to be taking the entire PC apart, I just meant that since he upgraded my old one via removing and adding things that I trust him to help me find the problem with this PC, he isn't taking the whole PC apart bit by bit

We always advise people to check with PCS before updating their BIOS because of the Ts&Cs. In the same vein we would be failing if we didn't also advise people to check with PCS before allowing a third party to mess with the PC, because of the Ts&Cs.

None of us are lawyers so it's unwise for us to offer interpretations of the Ts&Cs, all we can do is point the user at them and offer our own personal advice.

Honestly, I tried PCS the day it arrived, I called their tech support, got all the way to the phone ringing after an hour and 45 minutes for someone not to pick up and send me right back to the last in the queue. I've also sent two emails, one after they didn't pick up the phone and the other the next day, still not answering.

So at the moment I'm at a loss on what to do, I can't make them pick up the phone or answer my emails so until then I have a PC that isn't working and lacking confidence to fix it.

You do bring up a fair point there....reading again the T&Cs do conflict as, if only the owner and PCS are authorised to install anything in a system, then what does this refer to:

"If the actions of the person installing the components cause damage to the computer, your warranty will be void"

Surely that would be "if your actions...." While it may just be a lawyerly way of putting things of course

That sentence would imply 3rd person's are allowed. The question is, does a 3rd party removing and reseating the GPU consitutute "Should you take any goods purchased from us to a 3rd party and have them attempt to diagnose or repair a fault on the computer" this?
They are not very good T&C’s better than a lot though.

unfortunately these things are just a minefield, especially the use of the word Competent.

anyhow as non of us a legal jobs (although our legal consul did laugh at it) will leave it there.

Any update on this? I've got the same problem.

I've tried connecting the GPU (motherboard doesn't have onboard graphics to test) to two different monitors via both display port and HDMI - nothing at all.

Also tried reseating the GPU, nothing.

Pretty bummed out right now.

Good to know I'm not alone in this, I'll let you know if removing the GPU and double checking all the wiring does anything, if not I think we'll both have to send them back to PCS for them to fix
