Thankfully Cobra Kai didn't disappoint. You know exactly what you're getting with that show and they always deliver

Don't know what it is with some of the series these days, first as mentioned earlier in this thread, the latest season of "The Boys" finished in a rather dull way, then last night I watched the season 2 finale of "House of the Dragon", which to be quite honest was a non entity
We're rewatching californication right now. On season 6 so not long to go. It's really good, never mind mike..... Everybody wants to be like Hank! Great risque fun though and really cool.
I'm watching Psych. I'm sort of half watching it as it doesn't command much attention. I wouldn't really recommend it but I'm almost finished season 1 and going to stick with it. It's a little like NCIS with even more cheese and a comedy twist, guys a phenom with observation and I think it's implied he has a photographic memory. He's lazy though so never worked to become anything. Wants to work as a cop so his only in is to use his gifts to find out details and use those details to appear psychic to solve cases. Usual character development and estranged family etc, etc, etc. could write it, honestly.... But it's not overly offensive to the brain so it is making good background viewing.

One of my favourite series, Duchovny ad libbed so much of that series, it was literally made for him, he was of course a producer as well, given his history I do wonder how much personal experience was rolled into the writing.
The season 2 finale where Lew Ashby dies, that season for me was the best from funny to absolute tragedy. Something about that character and the relationship with Hank really resonated.
But all the characters are just so damn good, everyone knows a Runkle!

Went and seen Deadpool 3 last night.
I don't even know what to say about it. It made very little sense, it was stupid and the main plot was wafer thin. If it wasn't for the bonkers delivery this movie would have absolutely tanked.
This is the thing though. I can't put that "Bonkers delivery" into context. I don't know what "it" is, but it had "it"! I absolutely loved it. I laughed from the opening scene right till the post credit scene. The whole cinema were laughing out loud throughout. I genuinely don't think I've laughed as much or as consistently through a movie. They absolutely nailed it.
Props to Hugh Jackman, this is his best portrayal of Wolverine I think I've seen. His anger and emotion were delivered on levels that I've never seen before, it was the only truly serious delivery in the movie and it was fantastic.
The whole team seem to have just been having a laugh with this movie. It worked though as we were all laughing along too.

Yes, they just seemed to have thrown every character they could at it and made 'in-jokes' about them (and their multi-dimensional versions) and the movie studios.
But I like stupid, over-the-top darkly comedic/senseless violence...probably why I like Korean/Japanese film/TV so much (Oldboy particularly, Lady Vengeance, Battle Royale, Man from Nowhere, Sympathy for Mr Vengeance).

The MCU has been having a rough time of it lately, but the Deadpool movies all seem to land well. Hopefully this will show film studios that an R-rating for the right movie isn't necessarily a bad thing. The PG-13/12A rating that most action movies aim for has its place, but shouldn't be what everyone is aiming for. I still plan to avoid Borderlands, but I've read into it a bit more and many are pointing out that the OTT violence of the games isn't compatible with the PG-13 rating and that's one of the many things that undermined the movie.
I wish they would have more faith in R-rated as well but unfortunately it's a business, and a cut throat one at that, they can't typically take the risks.
The advertising and promotion for this movie was absolutely wild, like nothing I had seen before. I couldn't click anything online without seeing Ryan Reynolds or Hugh Jackman (not that that's a bad thing of course). It felt to me like they were really worried that it wouldn't work.
The movie itself just works, it really shouldn't have though. There are no really top notch movie qualities to it, it's like a blended cocktail of alcohol and madness, it hit the spot so well.... but I don't think they can do the same thing again in DP4.

Watching Matrix Resurrections for the second time just now. I wanted to give it another shot without the expectation, if that makes sense.
I'm 26 minutes in and it's pretty genius. The way it's delivered up to this point is modern feeling and has good low-level psychology for dismissal (required for the mass audience, can't be nuanced). The method has matured, the scenes are delivered with a modern feeling.... this would track to a point if it were a realistic situation... evolution without being sterile.
I'm waiting for it to go horribly wrong, I don't know if it will horribly, as my expectations were massively unrealistic in the first viewing
What I will say right now is I watched the first 2 exponentially more times than the 3rd, the 4th was watched once. I think they tried to get too clever and the messages within had to be decrypted rather than enjoyed. The first didn't require any knowledge out-with what was on the screen.
Edit: First view still stands. 57 mins in and it's all about re-creating scenes from the original to build nostalgia of the original and try to re-write good scenes. This has real feeling of production involvement rather than the creative writing team, *this is what the people will want* type nonsense. Bit of a shame as the potential was there. The plot points are all there, the dots connecting them are weak as hell.

I know it ends badly, this actually makes it worse as there was serious potential with the writing. Decisions were made that were very poor in this production, I can't help but feel the professionals were binned for the bureaucrats Morpheus and the manifestation and reasoning is absolutely horrendous!
