Indiana Jones & The Great Circle

It's another meaty game - possibly the first that I've been interested in where I don't actually meet the recommended specs - bad times!

If I've understood the additional notes correctly, these specs are with RT on by default, so my 5800X & RTX 3080 could probably handle 1440 at 60 FPS using DLSS as those specs are for native 1440p.

Or I could just play it at 1080p I guess...

Does look really good, but my word is that a hungry title!

Are they all targeting 60fps because 1) the game doesn’t benefit from high FPS, 2) because they want it to look like a console game, or 3) because they’re trying to save energy by running the CPU and GPU at <50%?

60FPS does seem to be the standard that all game devs aspire to reach consistently.

From what I've seen of this game in particular, it's an action-adventure game in the style of Uncharted or Tomb Raider, so probably doesn't benefit from high FPS.

Machine Games were the Studio, they were the ones behind the Wolfenstein reboots

MachineGames and id Software are two devs I trust to produce well optimised games - the last Wolfenstein game was a bit pants gameplay-wise, but all of the reboot games have run exceptionally well. Similarly, on the id side of things, Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal are phenomenally smooth on a wide range of hardware.

That video has eased some concerns I had with more concrete settings that showcase the game running well. I liked that they seemed to use a 3600 CPU with all the GPUs to show the differences. I have more than enough to be getting on with this month, so won't be buying the game for now. Will be looking at a 2025 purchase for sure though!

Steam reviews are Very Positive, so I'm liking the look of the game.

This is one of my go-to reviewers as he tends to focus on 100%-ing a game before reviewing. He enjoyed it and also touched on the technical state of the game pretty early in the video.

Ah man I just can't get into this at all. By the way my system runs this really well and is similar to yours. I just don't like the first person mode and the controls feel clunky.

Been playing this for the last few days and it’s a lot of fun. Currently on PC Game pass which is handy so thought it would be a good chance to give the 5080 a proper runout.

Oh my is it a pretty game. The 40GB install of additional textures was worth it because it looks amazing, both during gameplay and during the cutscenes which really work to give it the cinematic feel.

Definitely a focus on story, with the cinematic cutscenes benefitting this, the game leans heavily into the Indiana Jones IP, and comes with the classic cracking whips, tomb raiding (traps annd all) and punching Nazis.

However, the gameplay is an element that I am less keen on, perhaps because I am less used to the slow paced nature of it. With the “Tomb Raiding” elements I can’t help comparing Indy to Lara Croft, and this means that I can get frustrated with the slow paced platforming or nature of the puzzle solving.

There is no XP system in the game, and so there is no real benefit in engaging in combat (although knocking out a Nazi with a glass bottle never ceases to entertain) with upgrade currency instead earned through exploration and side quests. This then leads to a fairly repetitive gameplay where you sneak around at snails pace, and I’m not too happy when I see a room full of enemies I have to crawl around to dodge.

Overall still a good title, and maybe I’m just being obnoxious in comparing it to Tomb Raider and the Arkham series. Would recommend giving it a go to anyone with Game Pass and an RTX GPU, even if it’s just for the intro, which is a recreation of the start of Raiders of the Lost Arc

This has been firmly on the ‘I’ll buy it after I get a new PC’ list since its release. My 3080 would cough and splutters its way to running it, but I want something that’s going to do it justice.
Same here, I just need to hold out a little longer, I want to see what the RX9070 has to offer, but will likely settle on a 5080 for the hungry G9 of godliness.

May get a good 15fps out of this title at 5120 x 1440!

When I look at this game I see nothing from the graphical side that warrants such immense specs to be honest. Sure it looks great but it really doesn't look "that" great to me to demand such hardware. To me it just seems like optimisation is less of a thing than ever

I mean Doom Eternal looks absolutely stunning and runs on nearly everything, it's exceptionally well optimised fast paced with tonnes of detail and physic based affects and doesn't require anywhere near the same as this

I know the new Doom that's releasing soon has forced RT which you can't turn off which I absolutely hate and feels like it's only there to force people to upgrade GPUs when I know the company making it are incredible at optimising for all hardware requirements. I still don't think RT offers an experience anywhere near the cost of the performance

Old man yells at cloud rant over I guess

The Doom reboots are an anomaly though, what they managed to achieve graphics wise while still maintaining high fps has put everyone to shame
