It's another meaty game - possibly the first that I've been interested in where I don't actually meet the recommended specs - bad times!

If I've understood the additional notes correctly, these specs are with RT on by default, so my 5800X & RTX 3080 could probably handle 1440 at 60 FPS using DLSS as those specs are for native 1440p.

Or I could just play it at 1080p I guess...

Does look really good, but my word is that a hungry title!

Are they all targeting 60fps because 1) the game doesn’t benefit from high FPS, 2) because they want it to look like a console game, or 3) because they’re trying to save energy by running the CPU and GPU at <50%?

60FPS does seem to be the standard that all game devs aspire to reach consistently.

From what I've seen of this game in particular, it's an action-adventure game in the style of Uncharted or Tomb Raider, so probably doesn't benefit from high FPS.

Machine Games were the Studio, they were the ones behind the Wolfenstein reboots

MachineGames and id Software are two devs I trust to produce well optimised games - the last Wolfenstein game was a bit pants gameplay-wise, but all of the reboot games have run exceptionally well. Similarly, on the id side of things, Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal are phenomenally smooth on a wide range of hardware.

That video has eased some concerns I had with more concrete settings that showcase the game running well. I liked that they seemed to use a 3600 CPU with all the GPUs to show the differences. I have more than enough to be getting on with this month, so won't be buying the game for now. Will be looking at a 2025 purchase for sure though!

Steam reviews are Very Positive, so I'm liking the look of the game.

This is one of my go-to reviewers as he tends to focus on 100%-ing a game before reviewing. He enjoyed it and also touched on the technical state of the game pretty early in the video.

Ah man I just can't get into this at all. By the way my system runs this really well and is similar to yours. I just don't like the first person mode and the controls feel clunky.
