INCOMING!!!

Yup, I watched some of these last night. Must say I think I'm going Team Red finally! I'll give it a couple of months for AMD drivers to become stable (if that's a thing?!) and I heard the AMD 3D cached CPU may be announced in January which I'll be interested in too! :)

What's other peoples thoughts on it after looking at the results?
I'm going full AMD this generation too for the first time since around 2002

What's the gist? I've not had a chance to watch yet. The screenshots look like they're underwhelmed but typically these are clickbait.
Around same rasterised performance as 4080

Drivers will be further optimised in the coming months

Ray Tracing performance about half nvidias equivalent

Basally the same as the 4080 - some games higher FPS, some games lower. Ray tracing is still really bad, half of what you get in team green.

^ Yeah, what Spyder beat me to! :)

Bit of a mixed bag. 7900XTX looks to be on par with 4080 for gaming, with the exception of Ray Tracing, where it's more on peg with 3080/3090. If you don't care about RT (and to be honest, I don't think I can tell the difference in the samples I've seen) then this might not be a concern. Definitely some teething issues with drivers, most notably with power draw, assuming that's a driver issue and not a design fault. Has the advantage of being cheaper, but be interesting to see how custom cards are priced, and if Nvidia makes further price cuts on 4080 to shift stock.

As one reviewer said, if you're looking at a $1000 GPU (the 7900XTX), you're likely to have the money to stretch another $200 to the 4080, and have the better of the two cards.

Thanks all.

I don't think I can justify ditching my 3070Ti yet tbh.

I don't know how big an impact RT has in VR. I don't think I've witnessed it yet. If it is being implemented fully though, it's something for me to consider as I think it would have an impact on the realism of the games I play.

I don't think it has as big an impact on the screen as it has, potentially, in VR.

Seems AMD over-hyped and cherry-picked their performance increases (just like everyone does of course). I liked the real-world testing of their 8k gaming boasts…10-20fps 🤣

If I had the case to fit it, and a 32” 4K OLED monitor, I’d still be looking at at 408….based on the benchmarking I’ve seen in the games I play most.

Yeah!

Seems to be a decent enough card, comparable to the 4080, especially when price is included in the comparison.
But although ray tracing is relatively new, I'd expect it to become much more important over the next few years. AMD have got a lot of work to do in that department.

They're just about to publicly demo fidelity FX 3 which is their version of DLSS, and this version has proper frame generation with AI just as nVidia's does, and if the reports are to be believed (ok, so never believe the hype), then they should be on par with nVidia's DLSS 3 FPS that just released.

They're unquestionably behind, but they're catching up quick.

DLSS was first released in Feb 2019

Fidelity FX was first released over 2 years later in June 2021

If you look at the gains that AMD have made in that time, it's quite incredible.

So we're waiting for the 3rd party benchmarks to be released again :)

I've had a Team Red build in mind all along. With an AMD graphics card similar to a 4070/80. But don't have as much as a grand going spare.
A 7900 XTX is a bit too much for me and I only have an ultrawide 1440p ( :D) for it to drive. Possibly a bit OTT? I'll wait and see how the 7900 XT compares. With FSR 3, hopefully they'll be closer to 4090 and 80 cards than they are now.

Just additionally, there may be issues with the reference versions of the 7900 cards where the vapour chambers get locked up and it starts overheating, it's still early days but Jay seems to have gone hell for leather about a recall, just take that with a pinch of salt, he was the same with the 12pin connector on the 4000 series

Now I don't believe PCS stock the reference models and as yet, no partner cards affected, so this is really just for info.

AMD said it was a very small percentage of reference cards that it affected.. I'm hoping it's resolved by the time I come to buy one! I think there was also mention of some after market cooled cards having issues too though, so not too promising.

So, here we go guys, the new 7000 series X3D CPU's officially announced

AMD Ryzen 7000 X3D Slide Final.png

All 120W parts

No price as yet BUT LOOK AT THAT VCACHE AMOUNT????????? 144MB!!! That's absolutely mental!

Very keen to see how these benchmark. The 7950X3D might be the sweetspot for people who create and game on same machine: high thread count and high cache in one CPU. 7800X3D is likely to be the one to go for gaming is the focus. But comes down to the third party benchmarks, can't believe any of the hype the share in corporate decks unfortunately.

Anything out on the pricing yet? Rumours I'm reading are saying the price will be the same as the non-3D counterparts, with the non-3Ds retail coming down.

If that's the case, I think the 7900X3D could be an all around winner.
