So 7900 XTX more on par with 4080 than 4090? Cheaper at $999 vs $1,199 for 4080 though
Yeah, this all remains to be seen, I didn't even bother posting most of their performance claims as manufacturers claims are always rubbish.

As always, wait for 3rd party reviews everyone to be certain of performance.

I didn't watch broadcast, just skimmed through a few articles, but I didn't see any FPS figures, just x times faster than 6950XT. The lack of FPS would make me believe they fall short of 4090 figures, so did their best to mask. So I agree, independent benchmarks are needed.

If it is on par with 4080, a $200 difference is not to be sneezed at though.

Yeah, absolutely. I don't mind if they don't reach 4090 performance.

if they can keep up with the 4080, then I'm definitely sold. The price plus the lower energy requirements are both big factors for me.

They did a huge segment on the drivers which I didn't go into because quite frankly it didn't make much sense to me, was more for creators, but it gave the impression that they've spent a lot of resources on the driver / software side.

100% agree too, would probably never need all the power of a 4090 anyway so to be slightly less powerful with all the benefits.. sign me up! Just in two minds if I should then wait for the X3D model which I heard was being revealed early next year... too much waiting! :(

Mine was supposed to be a Team Red rig when it was originally configured, but with all the pre-orders, out-of-stocks, and getting close to Christmas, I just asked the PCS advisor what they actually had in stock to enable a build before Christmas

It's a shame there's only one B650 motherboard as well, having to select a 670 pushes the build price up that bit more.

I'm not giving them that. That's insane pricing. The 3070Ti is pushing what I need quite nicely for now. That's just greed. The £700 price tag of the 3080 was up there, adding another, over, 50% to that is just bonkers.

4080 anyone, almost as much as the Berserker cost me

There's absolutely zero % chance I'll be going nVidia this generation, totally refuse to pony up those kinds of prices, they're totally taking the mickie.

Think with prices like that, the 30 series cards will hold their prices and certainly won't be dropping, think my 2070 super will have to do me a bit longer...😂😂😂

AMD have reduced Ryzen 7000 cpu costs for the holidays

It's the motherboards that are the issue though I think

BUT, it does reevaluate the full platform cost vs performance consideration, and actually some Ryzen 7000 setups work out around the same value as Ryzen 5000

I'm still planning on a Team Red rig. As you've all said and I agree, Nvidia are taking the mickie out of it with those prices.
So which Team Red GPU should I be looking for, to drive a Gigabyte M34WQ monitor 🤔
(That's a 3440 x 1440p 144Hz, to save you having to look up the specs :) )
I've got an EVGA Nvidia 2070 Super fitted at the moment, which is more than adequate enough for now. Waiting won't be too onerous.
I'm thinking the AMD equivalent to an Nvidia 4080 or more likely a 4070 will be plenty. A 4090, 4k capable, would be pointless with this monitor. I only know the Nvidia numbering style, I've no idea what's what when it comes to AMD GPUs.
I'd be looking for improved ray tracing capability, with good fps (at least 60).

I’d wait for the first independent benchmarks of the new 7900 cards in 2 weeks or so to see how they match up relative to the 4080. They should be cheaper than Nvidia, but remains to see how the AMD partners price their custom cards.
Entirely agree with @IRLRobinS, always wait for 3rd party benchmarks before making any assumptions.

But it's not long now until they're expected, with official release on December 13th, so would expect 3rd party review embargos to lift on the 12th at the very latest. So 2 weeks away really.

You are both right in saying 'wait'. That's fine, I'm not in any particular hurry. Q1 or even Q2 '23 won't be a problem.
I was more wondering if you could suggest which AMD GPUs I should be paying particular attention to.
Or are we waiting for the reviews to find this out?

When the reviewers are speaking in numbers, I get totally lost.
I know they give themselves a lot to get through, for a good spread of game styles etc. But they're speaking so fast, with a lot of initials and numbers, I just really struggle to keep up with what they're saying. It took me several listen/watches to realise one presenter was saying EVGA, for example 😲 😆

AMD will launch the 7900XT and 7900XTX on 13 Dec, these are the models to wait for benchmarks, to see how they compare to 30 gen cards like 3080 and 3090, 40 gen like 4080 and the current gen AMD 6800 and 6900. Both from a performance and price point of view.

So we're waiting for the benchmarking 3rd party reviews, to see what is comparable to what.
Fair enough. Thanks :)

I just wish I could understand what they were saying better. Even understanding 'eeveegeeay' actually meant EVGA took several repeats before the penny dropped, and that was in an EVGA review 😲 😆
My understanding is improving, but it's taking time :)

Yup, I watched some of these last night. Must say I think I'm going Team Red finally! I'll give it a couple of months for AMD drivers to become stable (if that's a thing?!) and I heard the AMD 3D cached CPU may be announced in January which I'll be interested in too! :)

What's other peoples thoughts on it after looking at the results?
