Help my system for Dota2 + Coding

I'd like to build a system that I can play Dota at around 160 fps & full video settings and coding as well.

I built a system but it is a bit expensive.

My budget is around 1,500 pounds.

I would be happy if you give me feedback regarding how I can align the system with my budget.

My monitor is g-synch 165Hz MSI.

I think this would get you a much faster, current gen, and longer-living build than the one you posted (for a 1440p DOTA2 high-fps build)...keeping it within the £2k you've stated in your later post (although I also see a £1500 budget in the first post - so will try to do a build at that price-point too).

Just realised I selected the wrong Fractal Design case on my configs, but the price is about the same so won't make any material difference.

But you could save/redistribute £50 by going for a Corsair 4000D case instead.

we should change the GPU to Nvidia as my monitor is a G-synch one.
what do you suggest? I am quite high on the NVIDIA 4070 Asus Tuf Gaming one.
2K was the resolution of the monitor :)

AMD works with Gsync now mate but if you're set on Nvidia don't pay extra for a ASUS card, the performance difference is marginal but the costs are outrageous

It's a lot more money out of the budget for similar/worse performance (and the Asus branded OC ones are even more expensive for just 1-2% extra performance)...so the budget is better spent on getting a current-gen CPU and suitable PSU (the CV range are for 'office' machines really).

I can do you the same build with the TUF 4070OC if you want to compare...or you could just click the config links above and switch out the GPU to see yourself...

The first build is about £170 more if you use the much slower 4070OC...and the 2nd build is £400 more if you switch out for the TUF4070OC...for similar performance.

OMG, I don't know this. Hey @TonyCarter, do you think as well that there would be no performance issue if I use the AMD CPU with my G-Synch monitor? Do I really need a second SSD? It would be okay to have 1 TB as I have an external Sandisk SSD.
When the time I built a system, we had a lot of concerns about AMD GPUs, guys are we okay with them right? :D
If you have experience the games like Dota, do you think that I would get 160 fps @1440p?

They all support vsync. Nvidia just decided to call their's GSync and claim a few 'exclusive' features...but it has been a few years since it really made any difference...and they'll all work with each other's systems now.

Either of the systems listed should deliver over 200FPS at 1440p 'best looking' and around 300FPS on 'fastest' setting in DOTA2 based on what I've seen online (for example, a much older 3600 CPU and 3050 GPU combo does 120fps on 'best looking' and 180fps on fastest')...but I'm not a DOTA2 player by amy means.

AMD R5 3600 (2 generations old) + Nvidia RTX3050 (very poor GPU)

Intel 12400F (much slower than the 7700 or 7800x3D above) + Nvidia RTX3070 (much slower than the 6900XT above)

AMD R5 5600 (1 generation older, less cores, no 3D vcache) + RX6700XT (180-220FPS depending on quality setting)

So even the lowest config I've suggested should deliver over 160FPS @ 1440p at 'best looking', and 10-20% more FPS at 'fastest'

The reason for splitting the SSDs is so that you keep your OS/Apps/Launchers on the fastest/cleanest drive and have you game install(s) on the secondary drive. This means the boot drive can be kept relatively clean to ensure the fastest speeds (they slow down as they fill up past 50%), and it also means that wiping/reinstalling Windows doesn't get rid of your installed games.

Your external SSD can be used for 'slow' storage, such as videos, music, documents.

I changed the case and made a small upgrade on the GPU which cost 1570. What about do you say?
Do you think that heating would be an issue, I don't want the Fans always running as the kid's room is next :)
I've heard that RAM should have AMD EXPO ( I don't know what it is), what do you think on this ?

This is where the trade-offs happen...

If you go with the 7800x3D you would need the H100i AIO cooler, as the small tower cooler is not quite enough (the larger, but currently unavailable Deepcool AK620 might suffice, but I still think you'd be better with the H100i).

The case and fans should help you keep the whole thing relatively cool & quiet, maybe with a bit of tweaking to the fan curves...but it should never be 'loud'.

2k! :cautious:

It's 1440p :p, using that nomenclature we could call it 3k or 2.5k, it ain't 2k though as nothing references or rounds to 2000.

Pedantic.... I know, but it does my nut in!

The 7700 does a nice job for the budget. The 7800X3D would be the more gaming centric choice but if £1500 is the preferred budget then the 7700 is a great chip.

As already suggested, Gsync etc are all cross compatible now, so you shouldn't see any down sides really. The AMD GPUs tend to offer a fair bit more value for money. If there is a little wiggle room on the lower end build I would possibly plum for the latest generation card, but other than that totally agree with everything suggested :)

I would want a better cooler with the 7800X3D to get the most out of it. It's a fantastic chip for efficiency but the clocks can get hammered if it's not at the perfect mix of temp & power.

Oh, my bad :D
Do you think switching to the 7800X3D with CORSAIR iCUE H100i ELITE CAPELLIX XT RGB High-Performance CPU Cooler would be worth it for my case?
It cost 1685 pounds and a bit over my budget but If you say it will save a couple of years more and would be worth then I will convince myself and my spouse :D

I can't find an exact match for the comparison, but the below seems to show like the game is CPU limited, and the CPU upgrade would make more sense than the GPU upgrade. (the much beefier RTX4090 the benchmark below didn't seem to change much from an older RTX3080)...so it seems to show a 7800x3D might give you a 20-25% FPS boost over the 7700 (the 7700X is no faster, just uses more power)?

The 7800X3D can really come into its own with some games.. There's always a margin, but the margin is typically varied. Even at 1440p and 4k, the 7800X3D gets marked improvement.

I would get it personally..... in fact I did.... I'm not convinced your eyes will see the difference mind you, so I'm not sure why I'm advocating for it, it's just super duper

That with the H100i means you won't ever wonder what if, that's for sure. The money would only end up spent on DVD's & T-Shirts anyway :D

Oh! This is a really important benchmark and I've heard that Dota needs CPU more in another thread.
I encountered a few threads saying 7800X3D would be a good fit for Dota2.

I couldn't decide that fps increasing from 255 to 330 is important. My monitor is already gonna limit 165 right?
If I choose 7800x3D which H100i would be fit with it? I should also say that I don't like fancy RGB stuff as such. I also wonder if Corsair 4000D is still okay.
