Good desk and chair for PC

I built my desk myself. The usual, couple of Alex drawers from Ikea, solid oak worktop from worktop express, cheaper than Ikea solid wood ones. They have them on amazon too with no delivery costs so better to buy from there. I also made a pull out section for the keyboard, mouse as I like to sit further away from the screen.

Ive added various other cupboards and shelves etc but the drawers and worktop was around £200-250, but you can get away with far cheaper if you get a cheaper worktop.
Overall length of my set up is 2.50m long, 62cm depth extending to 1.1m. Added offcuts of the oak to other cupboard tops and made some shelves from it too.


Can't go wrong with the Alex drawers though, great quality, they take a lot of weight too, only downside is, every man and his dog has them.

I got a second hand Herman Miller chair from 2ndhnd, cost a bit but I needed something decent as my back gives me grief at times.

Building your own option is great if you can do it - for a desk it's not that tough either if you can find a drawer unit that works.

I will see how the IKEA one works for me - I am a bit worried about feeling crammed up against the screen which is why I have bought the monitor mount - so I can have it back as close to the wall as possible.

Mount and non-VESA adapter arrived this afternoon. I won't use the mount until the desk gets here - but the VESA adapter works great for my non-VESA monitor - it blocks a VGA port on the back, but I was easily able to maneuver it to leave the power plug and HDMI port free. (y)

Phew! IKEA arrived today - took a fair bit of effort to make it a cable-free installation, but it was worth it. The space is so small that cables everywhere would completely make my OCD go bananas. It'll have to do until the kids give me back their playroom for office space.... :confused:

Perfectly good enough for me and my needs for now. Cheap as chips IKEA chair is more comfortable than the backless folding stool I was uding up to now.... New Monitor in the pipeline at some stage also which will get rids of those ugly speakers too.

Now all I need is a nice new machine to go with it! Build date was 22nd Feb, now the 18th, not bad at all for a Jan 30th order. Fingers crossed!
