As far as I'm aware, them being VR ready means they're able to run it, but the 1660 Super is a lower performing card than the 2060, so if we don't recommend VR on a 2060, I definitely wouldn't on a 1660 Super. If you think you're a while off, I don't think it's worth worrying about too much. If and when you get into VR you'll need a new GPU anyway, so I'd look into it closer to the time. Thanks for clarifying. I have seen others say anything below a 2060 isn't ideal for VR but then PCS says the 1660 cards are VR Ready so I wanted to double check. I haven't found enough VR games I want to play to justify getting an Oculus yet so it will definitely be a while. Would I have a better experience running an AMD GPU with AMD FreeSync than a NVIDIA GPU or does it not matter too much?
Honestly I'm not too sure about the AMD Freesync and NVIDIA G-Sync, I have seen that it's possible to get G-Sync on a Free Sync monitor? AOC has this guide on how to do it. But, I'm not too clued up on it so I'll leave it to someone else.
This looks like a pretty decent spec to me! You could save some money by going for the Lian Li 215 case as it has a better fan layout than the 400D airflow and is £11 cheaper. Swapping to the WiFi motherboard and removing the card will save another few £. I've also removed the anti-virus as it's been known to cause issues in the past. These changes would cover the upgrade to the 2TB HDD you asked about without an increase in price (price with it comes to £1,240). The stock CPU cooler will perform well enough to cool the 5600X but if a stretch to a 240mm AIO cooler could be made, I'd highly recommend it.Here are my updated specs. I'm looking at the 1650 Super too but I'm unsure of whether this can deliver decent fps on medium/high graphics settings. I'm also considering having a 2TB HDD instead of 1TB although I'm not totally clued up on drive types and how they differ from one another yet. Is this a suitable build for 1080p 144hz gaming with a decent upgrade path? I can't see myself going any higher than an RTX 3070 in the future but you never know.
Apologies for all the questions. I just want to be 100% sure I'm buying the correct system for my purposes.

When it comes to the 1650S vs 1660S, personally I'd recommend the 1660S as it seems to give an average 15-20% frame increase which will allow you to run your games at those higher graphics settings (benchmarks here), but I also understand that the extra £120 is a lot of money. Maybe someone else will be able to give you a more decisive answer 😂
In your spec, you have an M.2 SSD and a HDD. The M.2 is more expensive but super fast storage, this would be used for your Windows OS, Programs and some of your games. The HDD is much slower but large capacity storage, this is normally used for general files such as documents, photos or music that don't require being on a faster storage drive. If you also find yourself struggling for space on the SSD, you could also put the games on the HDD but loading times will be longer. For your HDD question, the 2TB HDD is only about a tenner more for double the storage, so is definetly worth considering if you can make the stretch.
The future upgradability of this system will be good with the 850W RMx PSU, you could happily put a 3070 (or equivalent) GPU and it would still run perfectly comfortably.
