Discounts! I want to see discounts in the future

All the talk about PCSpecialist using the best brands for the components but to the average laptop user, unless there's a guarantee laptops bought from PCSpecialist won't break down ever it's all meaningless to someone who doesn't know the difference between one component brand from another.

What's more practical is a discount. I'm surprised PCSpecialist doesn't offer any student discounts.

And I might as well say it here as well. 1.5GB nVIDIA GeForce GTX 470M "special offer price" is wrong because it's more expensive than the newer model 1.5GB nVIDIA GeForce GTX 560.

As our prices are already extremely competitive, we don't need to offer incentives such as student discounts, etc. What many customers often don't realise is that in order to give a discount, prices are often marked up so that they can be marked back down. Many companies use this trick day-in-day-out.

We treat all our customers equally - so whether you're a student, in the armed forces, or just fancy a new computer you'll always be offered our best price. If you can find a better deal elsewhere, let us know and we'll see what we can do. :)

Can you pm me the name of that company and its website? Thanks!

If you really want to buy on price and not quality/service/performance, then there are cheaper companies. Using our forum for advice and asking our members for a cheaper alternative though...well...

I've done this before when I worked at a shop but only because the owner of the shop I worked for was a complete arse and made the mistake of really winding me up!

Not always the cheaper option is bound to be inferior in quality and performance. The service... err long as the laptop arrives intact and there's no noticeable performance difference everyone just goes for the cheaper product. Alienware laptops are well expensive but plenty of customers are having problems with malfunctions and component meltdowns.

Everyone is entitled to shop around and to spend their money where they want. Some people are only interested in the cheapest price and others are more interested in good after sales service. I personally think that PCS has reached a good mix of the two.

I spent months looking around the shops for the right pc but could never find the right combination of components that I wanted. I eventually bought from PCS and feel I got an excellent deal. I also feel confident that should I experience a problem with my pc in the future then PCS will rectify it.

Now, I may change my mind and consider buying elsewhere if you were to point me to any computer manufacturer/seller that did offer the "won't break down ever" guarantee that you appear to be looking for. In fact, do you know of a seller of ANYTHING that offers that guarantee?

My daughter bought a laptop from Dell a couple of years ago. When she had problems with it, I spoke with Dell and they said that once she had connected to the internet then her computer could be exposed to all kinds of viruses etc., so they were not liable for any fault (the main problem was fonts and graphics not displaying correctly). They basically suggested that the only thing the warranty covered was an item such as disc drive or HDD etc not working at all.

I'm sure that if this happened with a PCS computer I would get a damn sight more help than that! You can have a read of some of the forum posts in the technical support section, just to get an idea of how helpful the PCS staff and forum members can be.

You may well be able to find a company that can sell you an equivalently specced pc as PCS can provide, for a slightly cheaper price (sorry - can't PM you as I don't know any), but if you do, remember to check out their forum also (if one exists, which I doubt) and see what help their customers receive.

It's a testimony to PCS that they have this forum and they never delete unflattering posts. They just respond in a professional manner and try their best to resolve any issues customers may have...and are usually successful from what I've seen.

Anyway, where ever you end up buying your laptop, I hope you are happy with it and it "won't break down ever" :)

Rather difficult to decide. I'm able to haggle for really good deals and those laptops don't appear more crappy. I'm only planning to use the laptop for several years before changing it so unless I buy a faulty laptop it should last until then. Only thing I'm worried about is breaking it. I dropped my last laptop (Advent) cracking the lcd and motherboard and PCSpecialist only offers a 1 month accidental damage cover. If it's just wanting aftersales support for fonts, drivers, and software related things I can use any public forum. Anyone know how shock proof/fragile the Vortex II is?

Its more than just covering software issues etc, if for example your cpu dies, you RMA the laptop, they take it back, fix it and send it back to you, they are very quick, their specialists on the phone and online are extremely helpful in diagnosing problems. As well as that testing they do on machines is great, they even send you the testing reports to show if anything went wrong and what they did to fix etc. Much better service than any other company ive used in the past.

I know some of the larger brands have rugged laptops like this, but let's be honest, very few consumer laptops are designed with being dropped in mind. No matter where you buy a laptop from, if you drop it you risk damaging something. We've seen plenty of laptops come back with cracked screens from being dropped, stepped on or even shutting the lid with a pen in it. We offer to replace the screen at a very competitive price in circumstances such as this.

You can however extend the accidental damage insurance though, if you click the little (?) you will see the prices. I have copied them here for your convenience.

Policy Name Montly Premium Maximum Cover Amount Insurance Excess
Gadget Cover Standard £3.99 £200.00 £15.00
Gadget Cover Premium £4.99 £300.00 £25.00
Gadget Cover Plus £5.99 £500.00 £30.00
Gadget Cover Executive £7.99 £750.00 £40.00
Gadget Cover Executive+ £9.99 £1,000.00 £50.00
Gadget Cover Premier £11.99 £1,500.00 £50.00
Gadget Cover Premier+ £13.99 £2,000.00 £50.00

EDIT: Copy & Paste wasn't as successful as I'd like but you get the jist.

That's because you're looking at the base price. Most companies are open to haggling. You can easily get between 15-20% discount from Dell, sometimes even up to 25% off if you buy expensive stuff.
