Confused about the "Build Time"

My son bought a gaming laptop two years ago and it's been brilliant which is how I came to be a customer of PCS. Can't get better than personal recommendation and first hand experience.

Ok update - lots happened over the weekend (or very early this morning!)

Got an email saying - "Your order has now been built and is awaiting testing and configuration." How cool is that eh?

Then on my order page I read - "Production Notes: ORDER ASSEMBLED, CURRENTLY AWAITING:
2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 650 Ti - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready"

So which do you reckon it is? Must say though, I am very pleasantly surprised things have accelerated so unexpectedly! :scooter:

My interpretation of that is that is has been built, sans GPU, and is therefore awaiting testing and config (as per email), which will take place once the GPU is in stock...fingers crossed for a swift delivery! :D

Yes seems something like that. Either way, it's nice to see it moving finally :)

Nice! :)

i'm on day 11 , pre-production waiting for some fan for the water cooling unit due to some "delivery" error.. Frustrating as fu.....!! :(

I know exactly what you mean. I nearly rang them saying 'Well what DO you have in stock? Put it in NOW!" :D

Actually I am feeling pretty good about it all. On the PCS home page, the big banner ad they have shows three products I have ordered - the GTX 650 ti (the one they haven't got!) - the Kingston hyper-x memory - and the Intel 520 SSD. I've done something right - :sweatdrop:

I am in building mode for the 9th working day as of today (31.Jan.2013) because my ordered "ASUS Xonar Essence STX - Headphone Amp card for Audiophiles" is not in stock. For a company that has been in business for a long while like PCS, I expect excellence in supply-chain management.

Ok guy, didn't update anyone of the end result so I will do that now.
I was fuming on the phone saying everything I wanted and wasn't holding back.
How the company has gone the opposite direction from what I knew back in 2010 when I first got my PC from them (which is still glitch free)
I told the guy I did not believe they carried out the tests they claimed to do on the laptop otherwise I wouldn't have had to send it in so many times.

The guy was understanding and I told him that my work has been piling up since i have had to send it back so many times. I he said something that I was not expecting.

"Ok mate, I tell you what. We are going to make you another laptop from scratch and send that over to you by tomorrow. This is only being done because of how serious the situation has gotten, We wouldn't do this normally."
I was gob smacked!
He said he is going to get on it himself and make it himself and have it done today so it I can receive it the following day.

Now this can be thought of 2 ways.
1) You would think wow, PCS is so awesome they doing this, we can forget about all those repairs then.
2) What I have been thinking all this time was true. If this guy can build and "test" my new laptop to be fully functional in less than a day and get it delivered next day then it clearly shows that previous laptop had received next to nothing attention each time it was sent to repair. Took a week each time for the first laptop to be repaired only to return with another problem. So not much care was shown on that laptop. I am forced to use Balance of probabilities and say that I stand with my thoughts. I'm sorry if you feel different about PCS. Also I have been reading recent posts about people saying that they have much more orders than before and but not enough staff to meet it properly.

Well Anyway the new laptop did come; they took the old one and all is good. but just a while ago it started to make a horrible sound.
Long Story short, they sent a replacement fan and I had to replace it myself and its been fine ever since.

Now I am looking to get a new PC for myself (laptop was for my brother) and having doubts about PCS.

I sympathise with you about the issues you've had,but the fact a PCS employee (presumably one of the top guys) took it on to sort it out himself surely suggests PCS are as dedicated as ever to give the best customer support possible.

I haven't really followed this thread other than seeing like the 2 previous posts above but like Vanthus said it's pretty dedicated customer service to get that sorted. And I notice you're tempted to go somewhere else now but realistically you could have experienced those problems on any website. And I know for a fact that the large majority of others out there don't offer a warranty as comprehensive as PCS's and also that a lot of them don't have an active forum. I know this isn't an official channel of support and that a lot of major issues result in somebody saying "Best to give PCS a call" but I'd like to think that it is a helpful source of information for niggly problems.

I know if I'd ordered my rig from a couple of cheaper sites I would have been cacking it as I wouldn't have received the support or updates like I did at PCS and I could read online that other people were in the same boat as me. Like I said though I'm not sure how problematic your issues were and it sounds like it must have been pretty serious for PCS to give that response. Just be aware that no company will be perfect and I don't want to offend PCS in any way but maybe they're "best of a bad bunch". Without self-building and buying each individual part separately and knowing exactly what you've done you will never have that guarantee of having a problem-free experience. And even then it could take even longer if you're sent a faulty part; at least PCS will have others in stock to replace instantly rather than having to wait for the manufacturer to send a new one, etc.

Obviously it's down to you at the end of the day. Like you said, you bought a PC back in 2010 and that's been perfect. Now you've encountered an issue with a new build and you're having doubts. It's pretty natural but it does sound like a rare occurance and I doubt you'll run into those issues on every purchase.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out more information and purchasing a gaming PC? I haven't got a clue.

Ive not read all this thread but Id like to add my desktop was built on day 1 and by the end of day 2 was awaiting dispatch. Definitely seems PCS aren't bothering with 24 hours testing plus quality control for 24-48 hours in a hot room.

Fingers crossed it all works well. The reason im slightly concerned is I know heat may be an issue with the config I chose, once of the reasons I didn't feel like putting it all together myself.

I used the 5 day quick build option.

I don't think that is a fair comment unless you have further proof, there might be delays when informing customers regarding the status of your order.

Could be im rushing to judgement, im only going on my experience and the OPs post.

I ordered on Sunday and it was awaiting dispatch at 8am Wednesday (this morning). The only delay in my order may have been that it was finished on Tuesday evening as I doubt any work gets done before 8am at PCS.

Fair enough, sounds like im worrying when I don't need to. Im just surprised it was all done in 2 days when they can't ship it until Friday.

I wouldn't worry about it, I expect it went into QC Tuesday night.
The thing you have to think is that for all the people that don't have a great experience with a company there will be a lot more that do. I have bought 2 computers from PC Specialist and apart from 2 sticks of RAM that died after about 11 months (not their fault, just unfortunate) I haven't had any problems and I found their support on the phone really good when I did have the problem, (the only thing about them I don't think is brilliant is the fact they don't have a normal phone number so you have to pay to ring them from a mobile.)
