When I have attempted to run a Malwarebytes scan, my Windows 10 Professional PCS machine crashes with a blue screen of death with the following WHEA_UNCORECCTABLE_ERROR.

This occurred a few minutes into the scan. This only happens when I run Malwarebytes.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated, please.

Thank you.

Have you still got bullguard installed?

What location are you scanning with MWB?

Does the same happen with a defender scan?

No. Bullguard is not installed.

I have been trying to run a complete scan of my machine using the free version of Malwarebytes. When I run the custom scan, all scanning options are 'checked' along with both drives C and D.

I have run a scan using Windows Defender with Quick, Full or the Offline and there are no problems. No BSOD or threats are found.

Sounds like an issue with malwarebytes.

I would make sure it's the latest version firstly, if it is then uninstall and reinstall

When the blue screen of death occurs when I tried to run Malwarebytes, the system automatically restarts and attempts to boot back to Windows 10.

But before Windows 10 is able to show the login screen so that I can go to my desktop, a blank blue screen is displayed for a few minutes and the machine automatically shutdowns without me doing anything.

I have checked and the system is configured to write any automatic memory dumps when a BSOD occurs, but because the system is not booting correctly after this happens the dumps are not being created.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated, please.

Thank you.

As above, if you can upload the requested files?

Without some hard data in the files I requested we're just going to be guessing.

Later Edit: WHEA is the Windows Hardware Error Architecture, the 0x124 bugcheck is most often caused by a genuine hardware error - but not always. It is possible for a driver to foul up in such a way that we get a 0x124 BSOD. That said, from what you're saying about being unable to login does suggest a hardware issue.

Can you boot the Windows installation media? Does the system stay active for some time in the Windows installation OS? If it does that's encouraging. If it doesn't boot the Windows installation media or if it crashes in that OS then you definitely have a hardware problem.

If you can get the Windows installation media to boot and stay active, then try the 'Startup Repair' option in there and see whether that will get you booting again.

I ran Startup Repair last night and it stated the generic message: "Startup Repair couldn't repair your PC" I did this from within Windows 10.

I can boot into "Safe Mode" fine and without any problem.

In both instances, I did notice a very bad flickering on the right side of the display and this is the same even booting into Window 10 normally.

You can't run startup repair from Windows, you have to boot external media windows disk

Malwarebytes only crashes with a Blue Screen of Death after few minutes during the 'file system' scan.

If I run check disk on both drives C and D - which commands are best to use?

If I run Memtest, which test is the best to use and how many iterations should I run?

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated, please.

Thank you.

If it's stable in Safe Mode then it's unlikely to be a hardware problem and is way more likely to be a third-party driver problem. Without any data (like dumps or logs) identifying the faulty driver is impossible.

Using the link I posted earlier upload whatever data you have, but particularly the logs.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant that I ran Startup Repair using the Settings > Update & Security > Recovery menu so that I could restart the machine and access Advanced Startup.

I still get the Blue Screen of Death when I run Malwarebytes, but the machine automatically restarts and boots normally into Windows 10.

I did notice an Event ID 6008 in Event Viewer. The BSOD memory.dmp and mini dump files cannot be created, though.

Should I run check disk on both drives C and D?

Should I run Memtest?

We can't give any further help until you can upload the files requested.

I can see the recent crashes in the System log, but each is accompanied by this error...
Code:
Log Name: System
Source: volmgr
Date: 19/06/2023 02:05:17
Event ID: 161
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: DESKTOP-AGC4S6C
Description:
Dump file creation failed due to error during dump creation.
There are no WER bugcheck messages in the log however, and we should be seeing these if it's BSODing. I also see no messages concerning Malwarebytes in the Application log. In short, there is nothing in these logs to indicate why it might be crashing - that is a strong indicator of a hardware issue, and RAM is always the usual suspect.

I suggest you test your RAM by downloading Memtest86, use the tool extracted from the download to make a bootable USB drive (1GB is plenty) and then boot that USB drive. Memtest will start running as soon as it boots. If no errors are reported after four iterations of the 13 different tests then restart Memtest and do another four iterations.

I would still like to see the other data that I asked for, in particular upload the file C:\Windows\Memory.dmp if it exists and has a timestamp this month. You'll need to upload this to the cloud with a link to it here (be sure to make it public). I'd like to see the driver list too.

We need to be sure your system is setup properly to record memory dumps, so please check the following and make changes if needed...
  • The page file must be on the same drive as your operating system
  • Set the page file to "system managed"
  • Set system crash/recovery options to "Automatic memory dump"
  • Windows Error Reporting (WER) system service should be set to MANUAL
  • User account control must be running
  • Sometimes SSD drives with older firmware do not create DMPS (update firmware)
  • Cleaner applications like Ccleaner delete DMP files so don't run them until your problems are fixed
  • Bad RAM can prevent dumps from being written, so test your RAM

The Page file is on the same drive as Windows 10 – C. See screenshot: Disk_Management.

The Page file is set to “system Managed”. See screenshot: Win10_Pagefile_Settings.

This is already set to “Automatic Memory dump” See screenshot: Startup_Recovery_Settings.

The Windows Error Reporting service is set to manual. See Screenshot: WER_Service.

User Account Control is running, but the current setting is the default. UAC only notifies when applications try to make changes to the computer. Screenshot: UAC_Settings.

I have not updated the firmware on my m.2 SSD – Corsair MP600 since I have had this PCS build – 3 years ago. I will have check the firmware version using Corsair SSD Toolbox.

I do not use any cleaner applications.

I have run Memtest86 Free – 2 consecutive times without exiting the program in-between running each test. Both tests passed 100%. See text files: MemTest86-Report_Pass1 and MemTest86-Report_Pass2.

MemTest86-Report_Pass1

MemTest86-Report_Pass2
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cd_4sFr9snswUvoVpg5TGwDlvTupmJ9p/

The Windows Memory.DMP is not being created so cannot upload any of these files that with a relevant timestamp.

I have included a link to the Driver List text file.
