What you need to think about is this...the 3090 isnt the best one when it comes to gaming... it buys you maybe 10/15 extra frames for HUNDREDS more... the 3080Ti will be an absolutely beauty....cost less and probably get you 10 of those 15 frames anyway...

Plus 3080 Ti sounds way cooler.

When the day of pre-ordering does come around, would it be worth spending the extra £££ on the ASUS ROG version or just the normal version (whatever it’ll be)? 🤔 never had the experience of an ASUS ROG card

With top end cards, i would actually say there is a case for Strix cards, but... they are unbelievably rare at the moment. So don’t expect your pc anytime soon

Now as this is going to be a build that I obviously won't be upgrading for maaaaany years to come, I have some questions:

  1. I've gone for the 5900X, is there much (if any) difference between this and the 5950X that's worth the price jump? I'll be fine either way, just curious.
  2. With the RAM I've gone for 2 x 16GB, apart from the 400MHz performance drop would it have any significant disadvantages dropping down to 4 x 8GB at 3200MHz? Again, would be fine with either of them, just curious as it means extra RGB!
  3. If I add the LED Lighting to this build, do they install it for you or just send it in a box?
  4. For the Extra Case Fans does this also come in a box or do they get installed for you? I was thinking about adding the 3-piece or 5-piece kit for the Corsair LL120's to swap out the rear fan and maybe as extra fans along the bottom of the case, but unsure on this.
  5. The CPU cooler has a 360mm radiator, would this be installed on the front panel or above?
  6. Is a Sound Card worth buying? I'm assuming they're for better sound quality, but is it worth it? I have about £500 leniency from the current price so adding one wouldn't be a problem if they're any good.
Sorry for all the questions, just want to make it a tip-top build that I won't have to get anything changed for a while!

1. In heavy usage, the extra cores of the 5950X would make a difference, as long as the applications you use, actually use all of the cores.
2. In production machines the frequency of the ram does make a difference i believe. The impact of 3600-3200 in gaming is nothing, as the latency between the two is different. My understanding though is, the faster ram is better for you and there is 3600 rgb ram, it may just be sold out.
3. It will be installed.
4. The extra ones will be installed and any spares will be sent in your buyers pack.
5. I don’t believe that case can support a 360mm roof mount and even if it could, not many cases support a roof mount and RGB ram.
6. No. On board is good enough and if it isn’t, you’d be wanting to look at more professional things anyway.

If you want better sound, you're better off getting a USB DAC instead of a PCIe card. They're pretty pointless these days.

After seeing @mossmotorsport 's new build arriving here it's really made me want to order... 😭 what's the chances I select the 3090 on the build and have it not go into Building by the time I switch to the 3080 Ti??

TomBerry

Very small, 3090s are in good suitable ply and being built fairly quickly I think
Darn it! The wait for the release date is just going to be as hard as waiting for it to be delivered once ordered...arghhh I'm back in this cycle from last year!

Remember what happened last year though, you ended up ordering something less than suitable, it's really not a good idea with a PC because it will significantly reduce the lifespan of it.

Don't rush into anything, do it properly.

Been thinking about the case to go with for this build, I'm stuck between the 3 below:

CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE
• CORSAIR CRYSTAL SERIES 680X RGB GAMING CASE
• CORSAIR OBSIDIAN SERIES 500D SE CASE

The reason being that the 5000D looks very sleek and clean, however, I may need to go for a 240mm rad instead of the 360mm rad we had planned. The 680X apparently doesn't have that good of airflow (but could be biased from the video I watched last night), it's also a very big case. The 500D looks gorgeous but looking at the details on it the case can only have 3 front fans.

Any advice on what to go for here would be appreciated!

My personal fave is the 680X, due to it’s shape and layout it’ll easily accommodate whatever selection of components you want to put in there. The dual chamber design is also beneficial for the cooling side of things. If you’re going for the H150i I think the radiator will have to be front mounted, my preference would be to go for the H115i and have it on the roof.

The 5000D would be next on my list, and the radiator of the H150i could potentially squeeze in the side if you chose that 👍

There is literally one upgrade you can do in that machine: make the RAM 3600MHz. For £29, I'd do it. Otherwise, it's an amazing build and I'm deeply jealous!

I'm still thinking about this yet! I currently have the same RAM in my current build so I was thinking of making my system a 64GB RAM system by moving my current RAM over to the new system to have 4 x 16GB...would be unnecessary but very pretty 😅 might just go with the 4 x 8GB @ 3600MHz then!

Keep in mind that M.2 Samsung 980 Pro 500GB and 2TB have slightly different speeds 2TB being very slightly faster. Currently it's ok as you haven't picked an OS, but if you will, PCS may install an OS to the 2TB as it's the fastest storage. Just pointing this out, if you decide to take with OS preinstalled, would be better to change 2TB M.2 to a slower one.

I was unable to select which M.2 drive when I had a look at it, it just gave me the option to install on the M.2 or the SSD. Do you not reckon they'd install it on the 500GB one as it would only make sense to do so?

There's no option for which M.2 and if you choose two M.2, OS gets installed in to the fastest one. In your case it's not relevant as in your most recent specs you haven't chosen an OS. But, as I said, if you do, than you may need to email PCS asking to install it into the 500GB rather than 2TB, or change 2TB to a little bit slower one.

Thanks for that! Yeah as I'm installing my own OS I don't think it should matter much, will be fine :)

@SpyderTracks @AgentCooper Final thoughts? No further plans to change anything out of this now (apart from the 3090 to the 3080Ti when released), all looking fine and dandy?
